Last year, a film adaptation of her novel, starring Rosamund Pike and Ben Affleck in the lead roles of Amy and Nick Dunne, was lauded by critics when it hit cinemas, and Gillian has now said that she would be up for writing a follow-up… but not for a while yet.

Speaking to the New York Daily News, she said: “There could be a sequel at some point if everyone is game to get the gang back together, it could be really fun a few years from now.

“We could pick it up and see what those crazy Dunnes are up to a few years down the road and if they got on - not well I don't think.”

Gillian went on to say that she would only want to see a second installment of the story if she could get the original cast and crew back together.

She added: “I would have to have the exact same people to do it - I would want Rosamund, Ben and [director, David] Fincher to do it.”

‘Gone Girl’ scooped an impressive four nominations in this year’s ‘Golden Globes’, including a Best Actress nod for Rosamund Pike and Best Director for David Fincher.

Neil Patrick Harris, Tyler Perry and Emily Ratajkowski, who first rose to prominence as one of the models in Robin Thicke’s controversial ‘Blurred Lines’ music video, also star in the film.
