Allison Jones, Casting Director: There's Still 'Pushback' For Actresses Who Are 'Hilarious' But Not 'Attractive'

Apparently, a pretty face still trumps a good joke in Hollywood.

Allison Jones, the genius casting director responsible for our favorite "Freaks And Geeks" and "Superbad's" McLovin, spoke with Fast Company on Jan. 27 about her almost 30 years of experience in the business. While Jones told the magazine she has no problem privileging humor over good looks in casting, she explained that producers haven't always agreed with her:
"There’s still pushback, especially with women -- when they’re not that attractive but they’re hilarious, it still doesn’t matter to many people. They don’t get it.” But didn’t a film like Bridesmaids help break down some of those barriers? “Moderately,” Jones says. “It mostly just helped those actresses. It’s still tough.”

Here's to hoping more casting directors go deeper than face value in 2014.
