'Big Brother': Jade Lynch Can't Say 'Paprika' And It Is Hilarious (VIDEO)

Let’s face it, this series of ‘Big Brother’ has had plenty of explosive arguments, sexual tension and shock twists, but laughs have been a bit few and far between.

MORE 'BIG BROTHER':

That’s why we’re so grateful to have Jade Lynch in there. As if her patronising purrs and pouting weren’t cause enough for a LOL moment, Thursday night’s show brought us the fabulous moment when it was revealed that she couldn’t say the word ‘paprika’.

In fact, such was in her inability to say the word, she actually had a moment to herself in the store-room so she could rehearse giving the offending spice to her housemate.

Unfortunately for Jade, for all her practising, she still couldn’t quite master the art of saying the word ‘paprika’, although she did try essentially every possible variation - including prapika, praprika, papika - in the process.

Amazing.

Worst of all, when it actually came to offering Marc O’Neill the paprika, she bottled it, and simply referred to it as ‘that’.

Good going, Jade.

What the housemates don’t know in all their paprika-infused delirium is that on Friday night, three ‘Big Brother’ legends will be moving into the compound, where they’ll be secretly living with either Marc, Simon Gross or Sam Kay in the ‘BB’ bunker.

Tune into ‘Big Brother’ at 9pm on Channel 5 to find out who the public have chosen.

Gary Barlow has been unveiled as "Celebrity Dad of the Year 2015" following an open vote by the British public on icelolly.com.

The 44-year-old has three children with his wife, Dawn - Daniel, 15, Emily, 13, and Daisy, six.

The Take That star was up against other famous fathers, but managed to steal the top spot for a second time after his triumph in 2012.

He said about his win: "I'm absolutely made-up to have been voted icelolly.com Celebrity Dad of the Year 2015 and I'd like to thank everyone who voted for me."

On the poll, members of the public were asked which dad they felt was doing the best job of raising his children while maintaining a busy career and life in the limelight.

Tom Fletcher, Peter Andre, Rio Ferdinand, Marvin Humes and Prince William were the other dads on this year's shortlist.

Barlow joked that winning the award wasn't a "one-time celebration".

He said: "This will go on for months I can promise you! Tune into twitter, @garybarlow, as this award will be making a big feature over the next few weeks! The kids cheered, they love it!"

The singer also admitted to having banter between the past couple of winners from the poll: "I had a bit of banter with Tom Fletcher from McBusted who won last year, a bit of Mo Farah banter because he won the year before, and I always have a bit with Peter Andre because he has won it three years running.

"He has had the hat trick, I’m on my second."

Barlow said he loved spending as much time as he could with his children, but the challenging parts of being a dad included "traffic jams and airport security lines".

When asked to talk about family life he described his house as a "happy" one:

"I hope we are not too strict, Dawn is definitely stricter than me, so I get a bit of a telling off for that every now and again but I do believe you can get great things out of your kids for a Cornetto!

"It’s a noisy house but we try and support [the kids] and we want them to be happy."

Barlow was asked if his children were following in his musical footsteps, and said: "I think Emily might, she is into music. Dan will sit through a couple of my gigs now, whereas Emily will sit through every one, she is quite happy being there night after night. Daisy loves it too, she loves the musicals, she will sit through all the musicals - so I’m hoping Emily goes into music."

Congrats on your win, Barlow!

“But I know he really likes me – he tried to book me for some s**tty pantomime one time with about 30 people in the audience.”

Outstanding performances and a spot on direction makes the transfer of London Road, a National Theatre hit, to the big screen a resounding success.

London Road, Ipswich had struggled for years with soliciting and kerb crawling and the discovery of five bodies, the media scrum and the conviction of a local man Steve Wright seemed the most unlikely of subjects for a musical but with lyrics based on Alecky Blythe's recorded interviews a critically acclaimed musical drama emerged that showed how the residents coped and rebuilt their community. Darkly funny and thought provoking, the film adaptation reunites eleven of the original cast with Olivia Colman as Julie, outspoken mother and worker who just wants to make things better, to resurrect a community feel, Tom Hardy as the taxi driver Mark with a know-it-all obsession with serial killers and Anita Dodson who plays June, sympathetic to the plight of the girls. The girl's lives are an on-going struggle and their stories are revealed with a heart breaking and frightening honesty. And London Road, a fragmented community, terrified by the thought of a murderer in its midst got itself together and emerged triumphant. And they all sing, don't forget this is a musical. Adam Cork's imaginative musical score, Alecky Blythe's script and terrific cast performances capture the mood and fear within the community and the mixed reactions to the sex workers. An impressive adaptation for the big screen that's darkly funny and thought provoking.

The Act of Killing reflected on the Indonesian mass slaughter of communist sympathisers and ethnic Chinese in 1965. The Look of Silence, Joshua Oppenheimer's powerful companion piece focuses on the victims and Adi, an optometrist who has the courage to confront the men, some of whom remain in power, who murdered his brother Ramli. In silence Adi watches Oppenheimer's 2004 footage of these men on the very spot where they butchered his brother. With immense courage he confronts the killers speaking to them about the past while testing their eyes with a trial fame and glasses. How will these old men react to Adi delving into the past? Will they reflect on their past? It was a time when the community conspired in mass slaughter and those who were in the death squads drank the blood of their victims to prevent them going mad, but the seeds of madness must already have been there. Survivors still live in fear, silenced by terror with paramilitary death squad members living alongside their victims families.

Adi's elderly mother remains consumed by the terror of the past and the death of her son as she cares for her 103 year-old husband who's Alzeimer's has all but cleansed his mind of the horror. Theirs is a life trapped in a perpetual memory of horror. Stunning, powerful, mesmerising and heart breaking.

A UK low budget feature that tries for the high octane Liam Neeson Taken franchise action thriller but doesn't quite make it.

When his daughter Joss (Dani Dyer) is taken hostage, disgraced special ops sniper Sam Blake (Martin Kemp) is forced into doing the bidding of a mysterious psychotic international terrorist - assassinate six seemingly unrelated random targets within six hours.

Fights, shoot outs and the Mets finest in the form of DI Hannah Siddiq (Anouska Mond) and her side kick, DC Hicks (Chris Brazier) in close pursuit feature but the limitations of a low budget are painfully obvious. Try it late Friday night with a take away.

Mötley Crüe Drummer Tommy Lee Says He'll Feel Like A Single Man Again When Band Say Final Farewell On New Year's Eve

Mötley Crüe’s drummer Tommy Lee says it’s going to feel like being a single man all over again, when the band finally call it a day on New Year’s Eve this year.

Tommy, who’s been the drummer in the band since it formed in 1981, tells HuffPostUK he’ll be quite happy to “whore himself out” to other bands and artists who ask him for his services.

He says: "Come Dec 31st, and it’s not like we’ve got divorced, but in a way, we’ll all be single again. Come New Years Day, I’m going to be a single bitch, and I could possibly whore myself out. If Trent Reznor calls and says he needs a drummer for his tour… I’m there.”

motley crue
Tommy Lee (right) with his bandmates Vince Neil, Nikki Six and Mick Mars are gearing up for a final farewell

The band are calling it a day after more than three decades on the road and they’re so emphatic that this really is goodbye they’ve tied themselves up in legal knots that prevent any reunion happening at any point.

“Not mentioning names, but there are still bands that are still on their final tour,” grins Tommy.

“I called Micky (guitarist Mick Mars, sitting beside him) and said, we have to make sure there’s some way and I don’t care what it is, whether we have to cut ourselves, how do we make this legit, because otherwise everyone will think, oh they’ll be back in five years, and that’s not the message, the message is, it’s over.”

Fortunately, no self-wounding has occurred, instead reams of legal paperwork has ensured it can’t happen. How will it be enforced? Mick chuckles, “Financially.”

This means Mötley Crüe can never tour again, and nor can any of them take the name and carry on.

Tommy explains this singular decision: “We had to do something in order for people to believe it. And people still say, ‘You guys are going to be back in five years,” and we say, ‘Nope, not going to happen.’”

Mick adds: “It’s kind of like when your girlfriend says, ‘I’m leaving you,’ and you go ‘Wait, wait’ and you don’t quite believe it. But we really are.”

So, why’s it happening? Both Tommy and Mick admit their managers aren’t thrilled with the decision. According to Tommy, it was a case of being gently asked “Are you out of your fucking minds?”

But the bandmates were certain. Tommy says…

“There’d be nothing worse than seeing a band of this magnitude playing in beer gardens to 40 people about 10 years from now. We’ve all worked way too hard for that.

“This wasn’t something we decided overnight. But everything we set out to do, we’ve done – we came, we saw, we kicked its arse.”

So what’s next for these most amicably separating of musicians?

For Tommy, it’s a little time off, plus a desire to score films, plus fielding those calls from Trent Reznor and co. Mick puts it in more abstract terms – “it’s basically like a rich man discovering what it’s like to be poor again. It’ll be interesting.”

Mötley Crüe's final world tour which starts in Austria tomorrow, includes the Download Festival this weekend and continues until their final gig in Los Angeles on New Year's Eve - more information here.

'Violence and Son' at the Royal Court

$
0
0
Violence and Son, by Gary Owen, has given me 24 hours of full brain gymnastics. It turns up another secret or question or punch to the face every time it ticks back through my thoughts. Teach it in every single school now.

The eponymous Son is Liam - a quick-witted but awkward 17-year-old Doctor Who obsessive, who, after losing his mum, has to move in with a dad he barely knows. That's Rick - also known as Violence. He owns a pair of flying fists, an endless supply of cans of Fosters, and is 'getting it on tap twenty-four-seven' from his girlfriend Suze. Mixed up in all of this is Liam's friend Jen, who he thinks he might be in love with. How she feels is less clear, but she definitely likes him enough to go to a Doctor Who convention with him dressed up as Amy Pond.

It's a play that is deeply concerned with the tragic inadequacy of the family. The Anna Karenina rule, 'they fuck you up your mum and dad', even every episode of Eastenders, will tell you that the idea of family in practice can be a lot more complicated than the idea in theory. The mildew-gathering garden chairs that seat some of the audience suggest a parent's good intentions made in earnest and then forgotten about, Rick distracted by the sound of a can hissing open, a domestic unit not being maintained.

When Rick's propensity for violence becomes clear, Jen encourages Liam to leave for his own safety. But this advice isn't feasible - where else can a seventeen-year-old go exactly? The fact that family can be an economic necessity without providing proper emotional stability is clearer than ever. Liam needs this roof - but it's also trapping him in an environment where he is under constant threat from both physical and emotional violence.

For Rick, life is a series of physical encounters; it's either his fist or his dick hitting something hard. When he eggs Liam on to make a move on Jen, he's unsurprisingly unconcerned about whether Jen can offer Liam the things he'd need for a supportive loving relationship. She's just 'a hole to shoot into'.

Liam, now as rootless as figure as his hero Doctor Who, is played with such tenderness and likability by David Moorst that you gun for him all the way with a keen sense of sympathy and affection. But something happens at the end that leaves us shattered, re-assessing everything.

Jen doesn't initially appear to be as forlorn a figure as Liam. She's pretty, confident and her boyfriend's a rugby player. But barely hidden is an engrained sense that her validity as a person is determined by whether men find her sexually attractive. Her and her boyfriend don't even talk to each other - they just have sex and watch TV. It seems to her Liam is different, but it remains the same: he wants to sleep with her. There's a devastating sense of futility and disappointment in Jen's sense that is ultimately what all men want from her. But still she tells Liam 'I liked the idea that you liked me'. She's been hardwired to believe that's what matters.

She's had a lifetime of trying to shrink herself from men's spaces, inherited from other women - when offered more food, she says that she shouldn't, and then chastises herself for sounding like her mum. When she talks about getting felt up in the pub, Liam tells her not to go there - she must remove herself from the space.

When Liam and Jen do sleep together, there's an awkwardness about the morning after. We feel a warm sense of triumph and pity for him - the geek got the girl! But he probably shot his load in about 30 seconds!

But then Owen takes us through dramatic acrobats, as Jen slowly begins to suggest that she told him to stop, but he carried on. As the discourse around these things always goes, Liam hits back with disbelief, before putting the onus on her to have stopped him. But unlike when Liam was beaten up by Rick, and Jen replies, 'He said it, I believe him', there is no accepting of Jen's version of events here.

The skill of Owen's writing and Moorst's performance puts us into a position where we find ourselves struggling to believe that Liam could really rape Jen. It's a demonstration not only of a reflex to blame the woman, but of the often classist assumption that violence towards women is only inflicted by men with tattoos and drink problems. But there are signs, not overt, but signs all the same, of Liam's subtly engrained sense of superiority over women throughout. From the very first scene, he starts mansplaining Doctor Who to Jen: 'it's shit because you don't understand it'. He talks of how he knew his mum wouldn't want her photo taken as she lay dying in hospital, but wanting to possess one last thing from her, he took them as she slept without her knowing.

These are lives defined by silences. Suze wants Jen to stop talking, stop questioning. Rick doesn't apologise. No one talks to Liam about losing his mum. And ultimately, the play ends in not just an attempt to silence Jen through violence, but Liam too - in order to maintain his status, he must not just be complicit in shutting her up, he must shut up too.

Violence and Son seems to suggest that this silencing won't get us very far - we need to have a new conversation about violence and where it comes from. We need to understand it before we stop it. Liam's action comes from a patchwork of tangled messages about his role as a man, given to him by Rick, the writers of Doctor Who, and the rest of the world - but here remains the most difficult question: does empathy mean apology?

Rixton's Lead Singer Jake Roche Talks 'Boyband' Labels, Online Trolling And Second Album Plans, Ahead Of 'Let The Road' Release

$

It’s now been almost a year since Rixton first came on the scene, seemingly from nowhere, with their ear-worm debut single ‘Me And My Broken Heart’, which stormed its way to the top of the UK singles chart last summer.

Casual fans could probably be forgiven for thinking the group’s success came almost overnight, though Rixton’s lead singer Jake Roche points out this is far from the case, and that they’ve actually been working hard as a band for almost seven years.

Speaking to HuffPost UK, ahead of the band’s debut album release this week, Jake tells us: “We’ve been a band for coming up to seven years now. When we first started, we uploaded a few YouTube covers and we got offered ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ and all these kind of other shows but turned them down.

rixton
Rixton

“It’s not that we want to be more ‘credible’ than that or anything, we just hear a lot of stories about how they can turn you into something that you don’t want to be. And as a band, and as an artist in general, that’s kind of your worst fear. We just wanted to stick to our guns and do it our own way.

“I think some people think ‘Me And My Broken Heart’ came along, we got put together by people who wrote the song and that was it, we’re here, hi everyone…! But we do have a story, we’ve been out in the bars and the clubs for years and it’s just progressed over time.”

Rixton found themselves on the music scene at the same time as a whole slew of new acts, like The Vamps, 5 Seconds Of Summer, Union J and, crucially, One Direction, though Jake admits that they aren’t altogether comfortable with the label ‘boyband’, particularly as they write their own songs and play their own instruments.

“The only reason we ever get nervy about the word ‘boyband’,” he reveals, “Is because some people see the word ‘boyband’ and immediately think of One Direction or The Wanted… and to me, those are ‘boybands’. They sing, they dance a little, but they’re not playing instruments.

“I always feel like to get called a ‘band’ - what do you have to do? Do you have to refuse to do interviews? Do you have to get a load of tattoos and grow a beard? Is that how you show you’re cool enough to be in a band? It might be to do with looks, or the way you dress. People just like to throw that ‘boyband’ label around. But you can’t really lose sleep over it, I think when people come to see us live, that’s when they can maybe take that label off us.

rixton
Rixton performing in Dubai earlier this year

Showing he has a sense of humour about the situation, he jokes: “We’re not One Direction, really, and I wouldn’t say we’re anything like The Vamps, apart from there’s four of us, and one incredibly good-looking singer!”

Since topping the chart with ‘Me And My Broken Heart’, Rixton have cemented an extremely loyal fanbase, who Jake speaks favourably of throughout our interview, but admits that getting involved in fan wars is one of the downsides of being a pop star in 2015.

“With popular culture today, some certain fans can’t like two bands,” he explains, “Because they feel like they’re upsetting the fanbase. And it shouldn’t be about that, at the end of the day, it’s about the music.

“We see tweets all the time that say, ‘oh we really love you guys, but I just can’t like another band’. And it makes you just wanna say ‘oh well fuck off then!' - we’re just four normal lads having the most fun stage, we’re not asking you to buy our merchandise and make us millionaires, we just wanna make people happy with our music and have fun along the way really.

“I think people are scared of sharing their views on certain acts on Twitter because they’re scared of being branded something.”

With having a big presence online comes trolling, which Jake admits he has experience of “all the time”, recalling an incident from earlier that day when he found himself on the receiving end of abusive messages from fans of ‘X Factor’ girl group Fifth Harmony, after he admitted in an interview he was more of a fan of Little Mix (hardly surprising, given that, Jake is currently dating Little Mix singer Jesy Nelson).

“I didn’t even say anything bad!” he insists “To be fair, I gave my opinion, and you kind of have to deal with the consequences.

“But it kind of gets too much when people are telling you to go and kill yourself, and body-shaming and… I gave my opinion, fair enough, but don’t take it too far. And in a way, it kind of makes me want to just delete Twitter and delete Instagram. But do you know what, they’re only about 10 years old anyway, I don’t care.”

rixton
Rixton's album, 'Let The Road', has been long-awaited

Luckily, not all of the attention thrown in their direction since they hit the big time has been negative, such as the “little car chase” they found themselves embroiled in while they were in New York recently.

“It was really exciting actually,” Jake recalls. “We finished a TV show and as we walked out there was a bunch of fans there, so we took the pictures and said hello, and as we left to go back to our hotel, I saw one of the fans run into her car.

"As we got into our car, she was following us the whole way. She was cutting red lights, skidding round corners, it was like something out of ‘Speed’ - it was amazing!”

Fans have had a long wait on their hands in the gap between ‘Me And My Broken Heart’ and the album’s release earlier this month - though they’ll no doubt be pleased to hear they’re planning to work on their sophomore release while they’re on tour with Ed Sheeran (who Jake describes as a “true gentleman” and “exactly what you’d want Ed Sheeran to be like”.

He says: “We’ve got a million and one ideas, which I think we’ll put into practice once we’re on the road. We’ve got a little mobile studio set up, so we’ll write, record and produce it ourselves and see where it takes us.

“I’d like us to get a bit more of an identity with our songs, where you hear a song on the radio and you think ‘that’s Rixton’. I think that’s where we went a bit wrong with ‘Me And My Broken Heart’ and ‘Wait On Me’... I think because it was produced by Maroon 5’s producer people did think it sounded like Maroon 5, and I think for the second album it’ll be more about finding our identity.

“And that’s exciting as artists, that’s what you want.”

Rixton’s debut album ‘Let The Road’ is on sale now.

Little is currently known about the 26-year-old and what his connections are to the Essex gang, but a quick look through his Twitter account has told us a few things about him:

  1. He likes taking selfies. A lot.

  2. He is the "owner of a cool dog and some s**t tattoos" - his words not ours.

  3. He isn’t shy about stripping off, which should nicely fill the Dan Osborne-shaped hole in the ‘TOWIE’ cast.

  4. Did we mention he likes taking selfies?

Have a look at 72 (count ‘em) of his best pics in our glorious gallery below...

The Best Children's Picture Books Summer 2015

The 5 Misfits by Beatrice Alemagna (Frances Lincoln, August)
The 5 Misfits each have a physical or personality flaw, and their self-esteem is low. But when 'The Perfect One' arrives and announces how useless they all are, each of The Misfits realise that their flaw is actually a unique, special quality. A beautiful idea, exquisitely illustrated.

2015-06-11-1434018659-7903071-MisfitsUKCover.jpg

A Forest by Marc Martin (Templar, June)
Strikingly illustrated, this tale of deforestation exudes a magical quality when read aloud, even to little ones who might not understand the story's full implications.

2015-06-11-1434018874-506912-AForest.jpeg

Max by Marc Martin (Templar, July)
Also by Marc Martin comes this tale of friendship and urbanisation. As with The Forest (and as in all the best picture books) the pictures tell half the story, and Marc Martin is clearly a talent to watch.

Max The Brave by Ed Vere (Puffin, June)
Another Max but this time a kitten who wants to find a mouse to chase. Only Max doesn't know what a mouse looks like. Cue a hilarious encounter with a monster. Charming and funny.

2015-06-11-1434019061-5545039-MaxtheBrave.jpg

How to Catch a Mouse by Philippa Leathers (Walker Books, May)
Another cat-and-mouse book, only in this book, Clemmie the cat does know what a mouse looks like. Only the mouse in her house cleverly adopts a series of increasingly absurd disguises to escape being caught. A visual treat, it has my two and a half year old in stitches every time.

Black Cat, White Cat by Silvia Borando (Walker Books, June)
Walker is bringing out two brilliant Mimibombo books this season, both beautifully illustrated, cleverly conceived stories. In this tale, two cats introduce one another to day and night respectively. And then fall in love. Simple, effective and beautiful.

2015-06-11-1434019208-3885569-BlackCatWhiteCat.jpg

The White Book by Silvia Borando, Elisabetta Pica, Lorenzo Clerici (Walker, June)
The second Minibombo book is a story with no words. Rather like a modern, pictographic version of the classic children's book Dear Zoo, a little boy paints a series of animals on the wall until the perfect pet appears. Beautiful colours and brilliant for kids' imaginations.

Follow Me! by Ellie Sandall (Hodder, May)
Lyrically written, Follow Me has a mesmeric quality that leaves you wanting to enjoy multiple consecutive readings. A real gem.

2015-06-11-1434019383-8076259-followme.jpg

Poppy Pickle by Emma Yarlett (Templar, May)
Poppy Pickle's imagination tends to get her into trouble with her parents. But no more so than when her imaginations begin to come to life. There's bags of humour both in the words and the illustrations for little ones to revel in here.

The Cloudspotter by Tom McLaughlin (Bloomsbury, June)
A touching tale of isolation and friendship, there's also much fun to be had in spotting the pictures in the clouds throughout this sensitively illustrated book.

2015-06-11-1434019534-8544114-TheCloudspottercover.jpg

There's a Bear on My Chair by Ross Collins (Nosy Crow, June)
A polar bear is sitting in mouse's chair and nothing can move him. An entertaining story about little people's frustrations - and how, if they're smart, they can overcome them.

Where, Oh Where, is Rosie's Chick? by Pat Hutchins (Hodder, May)
If, like me, you grew up reading Rosie's Walk, you'll be as excited as I was about Pat Hutchins' follow-up nearly fifty years later. And it doesn't disappoint. A charming, sweet and funny book about a hen who's lost her chick.

Alfie Outdoors by Shirley Hughes (The Bodley Head, July)
Shirley Hughes is one of the great all-time children's author-illustrators and it's both remarkable and an absolute treat that she's produced another Alfie book at the age of 87. Alfie Outdoors is another classic and should be an immediate addition to every child's library.

2015-06-11-1434019691-8633097-AlfieOutdoors.jpg

Miss Hazeltine's Home for Shy and Fearful Cats by Alicia Potter and Birgitta Sif (Walker, May)
Utterly charming, this tale of a group of cats who overcome their fears in order to save Miss Hazeltine is life-affirming, with beautifully characterful illustrations from Birgitta Sif.

Ten Little Dinosaurs by Mike Brownlow and Simon Rickerty (Orchard Books, May)
There are three things I love about this book: the easy rhymes for children to join in with; the bright, bold, primary coloured illustrations; and the simplest detail of putting the actual number on the page as we count down the story. Brilliant to help teach children recognise numbers.

2015-06-11-1434019803-7232287-tenlittledinosaurs.jpg

Digby Dog Saves the Day by Tor Freeman (Macmillan, June)
This is our first Digby Dog story but it won't be our last. My little one loves spotting all the details on each page - a clever and inventive way to help develop children's observation skills.

Cheer Up Your Teddy Bear, Emily Brown! by Cressida Cowell and Neal Layton (Hodder, June)
The Emily Brown books are undoubtedly true modern classics and they're all currently being reissued by Hodder in lovely new editions. This story, about a miserable and lonely bear, is both clever, moving, charming and funny. And it has a great song in it. An absolute joy to read.

2015-06-11-1434019951-2238166-cheerupyourteddy.jpg

The Complete Alice by Lewis Carroll and Sir John Tenniel with foreword by Philip Pullman (Macmillan, June)
In this year celebrating the 150th anniversary of the first publication of Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, many editions, tie-ins and critical reappraisals are being published. But for children, this stunningly produced hardback containing all the Alice stories is the one essential edition to own.

2015-06-11-1434020096-1872585-CompleteAlice.jpg

Grandad's Island by Benji Davies (Simon and Schuster, July)
I've already waxed lyrical about this book in my Spring Picks, but now it's imminently to be published, it's worthy of another mention. It's a beautiful, heart-breaking book that will undoubtedly be one of the highlights of the year.

Rochelle Humes has become the latest star to be linked to the vacant presenting role on X Factor’s ITV2 spin-off show, ‘The Xtra Factor’.

The Saturdays singer could be signed up to front the new series when it returns later this year, according to The Sun.

Rochelle already has experience in front of the camera, as she and husband Marvin Humes act as stand-in hosts on ‘This Morning’.

However, accepting the role would place her in direct competition with Marvin, who co-hosts rival show ‘The Voice’ with Emma Willis.

A source told the paper: “The decision over who will take over on the ‘The Xtra Factor’ will be made soon and Rochelle is one of the leading contenders.

“She’s got a lot of presenting experience, she’s funny and likeable and knows how the pop game works”.

Previous host Sarah Jane Crawford announced she was leaving the show after just one series last month.

Former ‘Big Brother’ host Brian Dowling previously emerged as a frontrunner for the role, while various YouTube stars, including beauty vlogger Zoella, have also been linked to it.

Rochelle’s ‘Sweat The Small Stuff’ co-star and Capital FM DJ Melvin Odoom is also believed to have auditioned.

Previous ‘Xtra Factor’ hosts Caroline Flack and Olly Murs will be fronting the main show when it returns in August, having taken over from Dermot O’Leary, who stood down earlier this year after eight years at the helm.

The judging panel is also undergoing a revamp, and while Simon Cowell and Cheryl Fernandez-Versini are likely to return, Nick Grimshaw and Rita Ora have been touted as replacements for the axed Louis Walsh and Mel B.

'Big Brother': Nikki Grahame, Brian Belo And Helen Wood Return To The House In 'Time Warp' Twist (PICS)

Well, we certainly didn’t see that one coming… former ‘Big Brother’ winner Brian Belo has returned to the house, alongside Helen Wood and Nikki Grahame.

SEE MORE:

It had been previously reported that three ‘BB’ legends would be returning to the series as part of this week’s ‘Time Warp’ twist, with Nikki and Helen both being confirmed on Friday afternoon.

Press reports in the lead-up to the twist listed Nadia Almada, Gina Rio and Makosi Musumbasi as potential housemates to be filling in the third slot, but what nobody saw coming was that Brian - who won the eighth series in 2007 - would be making a return.

The three new additions to the 'BB' house

During his time in the house first time around, Brian made headlines for not knowing who William Shakespeare was, spending a hilarious minute in the Diary Room trying to think of as many synonyms for ‘woman’ as possible and… erm… embarrassingly wetting himself in the house.

Ahead of his return to the house, ‘BB’ superfan Brian - who even has the show’s logo tattooed on his arm - spoke favourably about his new housemates: “I think I’ll be friends with Marc and Danny. I think they’re the ones that I’ll more likely be friends with. They are the ones that are most like my actual friends in the real world. I don’t know how the other boys are going to take to me, like Jack and Joel…”

Nikki has already said her piece about her new housemates, admitting she has previous history with Simon Gross, and promising fireworks ahead of her entrance.

The three returning housemates will be hiding out in the ‘Big Brother’ secret bunker until Sunday night, when they will dramatically return to the house as part of an explosive ‘Time Warp’ twist, and spending the rest of the week there.

‘Big Brother’ continues on Saturday night, at 9pm on Channel 5.

Dave Grohl Breaks Leg During Foo Fighters Gig But Carries On Performing Anyway

Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl has proved he’s made of some seriously hard stuff after carrying on performing at a gig having broken his leg on stage.

The rock band’s lead singer suffered a nasty fall just two songs into a show in Gothenburg, Sweden on Friday (13 June) when he plunged off the stage.

Fans were left in shock as Dave led on the floor in agony for several minutes, before being taken backstage.

He told them: “Hey, ladies and gentlemen. I love you, but I think I just broke my leg. I really broke leg.

“I'm going to go to the hospital, I'm going to fix my leg, but then I'm going to come back.”

As the Dave then asked the rest of the band to carry on performing, he was taken to hospital where X-rays proved that he had indeed broken his leg.

But true to his word, he returned to the stadium with his leg wrapped up to finish the gig sat on a chair.

“I may not be able to walk or run but I can still play guitar and scream,” he told the crowd.

He later shared a picture of his X-ray on the band’s Twitter account, writing: "Thank you Gothenburg. That was amazing."

Dave’s ordeal drew some unlikely sympathy from Jedward’s Edward Grimes, who suffered a similar fate on stage at T4 On The Beach in 2010.

Foo Fighters are due to headline Glastonbury later this month, with some fans speculating whether Dave will be forced to perform from the confines of a chair there too.

Chris Evans has publicly backed Nick Grimshaw to front a new series of ‘TFI Friday’, but it seems fans of the show are less than impressed with the suggestion.

The madcap Channel 4 show returned for a one-off special on Friday (12 June) night, with former host Chris Evans in the hotseat, but it now appears he’s not about to front any further episodes should the show return full time.

As Radio 1 Breakfast Show DJ Grimmy joined him on the special, Chris told viewers: "I think Nick is the future of the show.

"I think this is good fun for us oldies, but if this show comes back he is the guy, he is the guy."

Grimmy - who is also rumoured to be joining the ‘X Factor’ judging panel - seemed to be in agreement, mouthing “yeah” to the endorsement.

But fans on Twitter refused to imagine Grimmy taking the reigns of the show:

The Guardian previously reported that Channel 4 bosses were hoping to lure Chris into fronting a revived series of the show if the special proved to be successful.

However, he has described the special as his “closure” from the show, as he unexpectedly left the show moments after Channel 4 announced its last series in 2000.

Jeremy Clarkson made his return to TV following his ‘Top Gear’ sacking to give Chris Evans a driving lesson on ‘TFI Friday’ on Friday (12 June) night.

It marked the disgraced presenter’s first appearance on television since his sacking from ‘Top Gear’ for punching a producer earlier this year.

The host appeared alongside Chris in a sketch about how to properly introduce a car, making jokes about the future of the motoring show.

Chris has been heavily linked to Jeremy’s role since his sacking, but the axed host told his pal: "You're not going to get my old job."

"Don't want it. I ruled myself out," Chris argued.

"You haven't been asked," Jeremy retorted.

However, Chris fuelled rumours when he later introduced a ‘Top Gear’ inspired segment on the one-off ‘TFI Friday’ special, where his mother did a lap of the the ‘Top Gear’ track in her mobility scooter.

Jeremy’s final ‘Top Gear’ episode - filmed before he was fired - is set to air in the next few weeks.

The future of the show is still up in the air, as James May and Richard Hammond have reportedly turned down a big money offer to return to the show without Jeremy.

Seth MacFarlane Sings Cyndi Lauper's Hits As Family Guy's Stewie And Peter Griffin On ‘The Graham Norton Show' (VIDEO)

Being one of the most famous voice artists in the world, of course Graham Norton was going to ask Seth MacFarlane to do some of his ‘Family Guy’ voices as he appeared on his chat show.

What the cartoon creator wasn’t expecting though, was to have to sing some of Cyndi Lauper's greatest hits as baby Stewie and Peter Griffin in front of the lady herself.

Talk about pressure.

But as it turns out, Peter and Stewie’s vocals lend rather nicely to ‘Time After Time’ and ‘True Colours’, as you can see in the hilarious video above.

Rita Ora has admitted she is loving being at the centre of a bidding war between ‘The X Factor’ and ‘The Voice’.

SEE ALSO:

It has been reported that Simon Cowell is trying to convince the singer to sign up as a judge on the ITV talent show, stealing her from their BBC rival.

And it seems Rita is enjoying the speculation, as she told The Sun: “It is very complimentary, of course. A massive compliment. Watching a bidding war going on makes me feel special."

However, Rita refused to be drawn as so whether Simon had made her a formal offer.

“I’m not going to get into whether I have been made an offer — I’m not going to go there — but it is nice to even be rumoured to be in the running.”

While Rita previously pledged allegiance to ‘The Voice’, Simon has described her as “fair game” to poach.

“I saw Rita on ‘The Voice’ and I thought she was very good. When it comes to asking her over, you know, it’s fair game,” he told The Mirror in April.

Rita only joined 'The Voice' this year

The ‘Hot Right Now’ hitmaker previously served as a guest judge on ‘The X Factor’ in 2012, later turning down an invitation to join the panel permanently the following year.

However, it has been reported that she is now considering Simon’s latest offer, as her close pal Nick Grimshaw is heavily rumoured to be replacing Louis Walsh.

The Irish judge has been axed from the show after 11 series, while it’s thought Mel B also won’t be returning alongside Simon and Cheryl Fernandez-Versini.

An announcement on the ‘X Factor’ panel is expected in the next few weeks after it was revealed filming of the arena auditions will begin early next month.

On Saturday afternoon, it was confirmed, by a spokesperson for the couple, that Sophie had given birth to their first child, a baby boy.

Their representative tells The Sun: “Benedict Cumberbatch and Sophie Hunter are delighted to announce the arrival of their beautiful son.

"We would kindly ask everyone to respect the family's privacy during these next few precious weeks."

Benedict and Sophie announced they were expecting a baby earlier this year, tying the knot a month later on the Isle Of Wight, on Valentine’s Day.

It’s been quite a week for the ‘Sherlock’ actor - in addition to the arrival of his first child, it was also reported earlier this week that he would be receiving a CBE in the Queen’s birthday honours list.

His latest prominent film role, starring as Alan Turing in ‘The Imitation Game’, earned him a Best Actor nomination at the Academy Awards, as well as the Golden Globes and the Baftas.

Later this year, he’ll be returning to the role of Sherlock Holmes for the BBC’s Christmas special of ‘Sherlock’, the first time viewers will have seen him in the part for almost two years.

This will be followed by a fourth series, though filming for this is not expected to begin filming until Spring 2016.

The incident happened when Michael wandered into the pathway of a stage pyrotechnic.

Luckily, Michael managed to escape serious injury, and later posted a photo of his face in bandages on Twitter, assuring fans he was ok.
