'Fantastic Four' Reviews: Critics Are NOT Impressed With Latest Superhero Film

The reviews are in for the latest reboot of the ‘Fantastic Four’ franchise… and we’re afraid to say they're not pretty.

Regrettably for Miles Teller, Michael B Jordan, Kate Mara and Jamie Bell - who make up the latest incarnation of the superhero team - the latest film, out now in cinemas, has been all but torn apart by critics.

fantastic

Various scathing reviews have singled out the film’s storyline, special effects and dialogue among its greatest flaws, although the cast have been repeatedly praised for making the best of what they had been given.

Oh dear.

Here is just a selection of what the press have had to say about ‘Fantastic Four’...

The Sun
“We barely even get to see the team use their powers, and there is almost no spectacle aside from the rushed, ugly CGI inter-dimensional climax.

“Despite the best efforts of its talented cast, this joins ‘Terminator Genisys’ as this summer’s big disappointments. Far from fantastic.”

The Guardian
“Delivered so slowly that you can sense other worlds for the team to explore forming as the run time ambles on. The cast are some of the most promising actors of their generation, but what chemistry there is between them is swept away by wave after wave of expository dialogue and ludicrous exclamation (“His biochemistry is off the charts!”).

“There are many references to the purity of creative endeavour being corrupted by corporate involvement. After the fifth or sixth mention, it’s hard to not to read this as something of a dig at the studio.”

The Independent
“The first half of the film is almost completely bereft of anything approaching action. We see Johnny racing cars and Reed causing electrical interference when he tests his transporter but, for most of the time, the young scientists are in the labs. There is little sense of what they're trying to achieve or where they hope to go.

“The director Josh Trank (Chronicle) belatedly throws in plenty of shock-and-awe spectacle in the final reel. We see cars sucked into a vortex. There are rumblings on the soundtrack and cosmic fight sequences. This, though, presents a new set of problems. The characters are so transformed from what they were that we seem to be watching a completely different movie.

The Telegraph
“After taking forever to arrive, the foursome’s big team-up moment feels illogical and perfunctory – not to mention spectacularly ugly, with blurry special effects and some inexplicable stylistic flourishes. Doom’s famous metal mask, for instance, is nowhere to be seen: in its place is a smooth, swirly face which unnervingly resembles the Monkey Jesus painting on the wall of a Spanish church that became a minor internet sensation a few years ago.

“The harder a film strains to shut ridiculousness out, the more likely it is to seep back in at the worst possible moment. And while there’s no reason that superhero films can’t be serious, they forget their comic roots at their peril.

Digital Spy
“The scenes that work best are those that require no effects and minimal action, when the film's appealing young cast are given free reign to play off one another – Teller and Jordan being, unsurprisingly, the charismatic standouts. Even with relationships as surface-deep as the ones here, there's something endearing about their interactions and the film's emphasis on friendship.

“Unfortunately those moments get fewer and further between as the story unfolds, with the third act losing itself entirely in cliched dramatic beats and a would-be climactic final battle that feels utterly weightless and lacking in any stakes.”

NME
“It would be gratifying to report that 20th Century Fox's new Fantastic Four film finally gets it right. But sadly, this costly reboot from Chronicle director Josh Trank is an uncommonly dull summer blockbuster sunk by painfully misjudged pacing.

“Though it spends aeons on protracted backstory scenes introducing the callow quartet who will ultimately become the Fantastic Four - geeky genius Reed Richards (Whiplash's Miles Teller), his childhood pal Ben Grimm (Billy Elliot's Jamie Bell), teen rebel Johnny Storm (Chronicle's Michael B. Jordan) and his more focused sister Sue Storm (House Of Cards' Kate Mara) - it fails to make them engaging.”

Variety
"Ultimately, Fox’s stab at reviving one of its inherited Marvel properties feels less like a blockbuster for this age of comics-oriented tentpoles than it does another also-ran — not an embarrassment, but an experiment that didn’t gel. And having seemingly missed twice in trying to get Fantastic Four right, the studio, unlike Reed, might want to think seriously before making any more trips back to the drawing board."

The Mirror
“Not only is it no fun, Fantastic Four also falls into the trap of being heavy on the origin and light on the story.

“Tonally, the film is also a failure with superheroes this cheerfully ridiculous crying out for a light directorial touch. Instead the film is visually dark and the plot is poe-faced and notably missing any fun factor.

“It all adds up to a fantastic bore while a planned sequel, due in 2017, looks like a fantastically bad idea.”

The Hollywood Reporter
“Fantastic Four feels like a 100-minute trailer for a movie that never happens.

“This time, the reins have been handed to director and co-writer Josh Trank, whose one previous feature was the 2012 “found-footage” thriller Chronicle. Unfortunately, there is no youthful enthusiasm or sense of reinvention evident in this outing. Nothing that Trank and his co-writers Jeremy Slater and Simon Kinberg have come up with does anything to alleviate the feeling that the titular quartet simply don't constitute very interesting superheroes.”

The Wrap
“It’s one thing for a movie to leave you wanting a sequel and quite another to make you wish you were watching that sequel instead.“Fantastic Four” — the second attempt by Fox and the third by Hollywood in general to bring Marvel Comics’ popular superteam to the big screen — offers glimmers of good things to come in its final moments, but only after the audience has slogged through yet another dispiriting origin story and yet another Earth-rescuing battle in a bland, CG-created nowhere land.”

'Fantastic Four' is in cinemas now.

‘X Factor' Winner Ben Haenow Comes Out Of Hiding As He Prepares To Finally Release His Debut Album

If, like us, you were wondering where the heck last year’s ‘X Factor’ winner Ben Haenow had disappeared to, then wonder no more, dear readers.

READ MORE:

Aside from the odd tweet, we haven’t heard too much from Ben since he went AWOL after beating Fleur East to be crowned ‘X Factor’ champ at the end of last year.

ben haenow

There was the obligatory winner’s single of course, and whilst ‘Something I Need’ did the biz by bagging him the Christmas No.1, it’s been pretty quiet from Ben’s camp ever since.

We were beginning to wonder if he’d gone back to driving his white van round Croydon.

ben haenow

Thankfully, that isn’t the case and we’re sure it's no coincidence at all that as filming for the new series of ‘X Factor’ gets underway, Ben has broken cover in New York.

New pics of the 30-year-old out and about in the Big A have surfaced as well as news that he’s been beavering away in the studio with the likes of Danny O’Donoghue of The Script and Kodaline.

ben haenow

That debut album can’t be too far off and, as is traditional with past winners of ‘The X Factor’, we’re sure we’ll be seeing him belting out his debut single when the live shows kick off in September.

Prepare yourselves Haeniacs.

The ‘Harry Potter’ spin-off film, ‘Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them’ is really starting to take shape, with another star having reportedly landed a “key role” in the wizarding film.

READ MORE:

Northern Irish actress Jenn Murray has been cast in one of the film’s leading parts, according to TheWrap.

Jenn’s past acting credits include the title role in the horror film ‘Dorothy Mills’, a stint in the TV show ‘Truckers’ and, of course, the mandatory appearance in ‘The Bill’.

She’ll be joining Katherine Waterston and Eddie Redmayne, who has been given the leading role of magic zoologist Newt Scamander.

The film, set 70 years before the events of the ‘Harry Potter’ series, follows Newt on his travels to New York, in pursuit of magical creatures.

It was reported earlier this week that Colin Farrell would also be appearing in ‘Fantastic Beasts’, playing a wizard named Graves.

The film will see author JK Rowling making her screenwriting debut, while David Yates - who directed the final four ‘Harry Potter’ films - will also be returning at the helm of the new project.

The original book ‘Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them’ was first mentioned in the ‘Harry Potter’ novel, ‘The Philosopher’s Stone’, and was later released as a separate companion book in 2001, with some of the proceeds going to help Comic Relief.

‘Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them’ is currently slated for release on 18 November 2016.

Review: Three Days in the Country, National Theatre

2015-08-06-1438890071-532603-ThreeDays1.jpg

Three Days in the Country at the National Theatre is an exciting, absorbing version of Ivan Turgenev's A Month in the Country. It's smart, funny and overcomes its challenges to keep you entertained.

Turgenev's beautiful phrasing and repartee sparkle in this tragic-comedy of errors about a dashing tutor and his impact on a large Russian estate. However that the main characters in this play are not particularly likeable, or even sympathetic, is a challenge.

Natalya (Amanda Drew) is selfish and bored, and lacks the courage to rattle her cage and break out of her stifling marriage to the ever-angry rich landowner, Arkady (John Light).

As a result, she has for years tortured the lovestruck Ratkin (John Simm) who dreams of whisking her away. Natalya indulges his attentions, at times even demands them. But she has no intention of embarking on any affair.

2015-08-06-1438890307-2239871-ThreeDays2.jpg

That is until the suave Belyaev (Royce Pierreson) arrives to tutor her son. Belyaev's Casanova-style behaviour sends ruffles through the women of the household, and results in Natalya squaring up to Vera (Lily Sacofsky), her ward, in order to secure Belyaev's attentions for herself.

But given that a love triangle between bitter, angry people can be quite difficult to care about, what saves this production? Its profound and well thought-out investment in the more peripheral characters.

Whether it's the terrific Mark Gatiss as the social-climbing doctor Shpigelsky, Debra Gillett as the sparky Lizaveta or Nigel Betts as the bumbling Bolshintsov, these characters become the heart and soul of the piece, injecting the show with both comedy and pathos. You feel more for them then you do for the rather damaged central characters.

2015-08-06-1438890394-6393849-ThreeDays3.jpg

And this skew is managed by some clever directing from Patrick Marber. Scenes are kept short with quick segues from one to the next. It keeps the energy going, pushes the play forward and ensures that no matter if we are in scenes which may not be as interesting for the audience, with characters we may not particularly care for, we are never far away from a quick change-up to bring us back on board.

The bravest part of this production is its design from Mark Thompson. When the curtain lifts, the first thing that hits you is the complete absence of any set. This is a stripped back Lyttleton stage with a handful of props - a table, some chairs and maybe a couple of glasses.

Yet colour and texture infuses this bare arena through the vast painted landscape that drapes the back of the stage, and through the rich, sumptuous traditional clothing worn by all the characters. It is arresting for those expecting a lavish traditional production yet it's exciting and successfully pushes aside all the literal and metaphorical weight of a burdensome set and lets its characters roam free around the stage, giving them space to move and breathe. It injects life into the production.

Yet that is not all I noticed when the curtain lifted at the start of the show.

2015-08-06-1438890501-5263206-ThreeDays4.jpg

There are 20 parts in this production, about 12 of which are speaking, and only two of these are played by POC and, yes, one of them was playing the maid. I wince any and every time I see a WOC cast as a maid or servant. It's just all sorts of wrong. Just not good enough. Diversity isn't just about numbers but where those numbers are and, well, can we please just stop casting WOC as maids.

That isn't the only diversity concern. Patrick Marber has kind of taken over the stages at the National Theatre. In addition to directing and adapting Three Days, he also wrote The Red Lion, which is showing at the Dorfman, and was the dramaturg for The Beaux Stratagem, showing on the Olivier. The NT has even been promoting this seemingly great achievement on Twitter with the hashtag #PatricksHattrick

For me, that three stages out of the four available at the NT have been handed over to the same white male playwright/director doesn't exactly make me want to do cartwheels. I would have been more impressed if the opportunity had been taken to give an opportunity to a female playwright or person of colour instead.

I have written about the challenges facing female playwrights specifically elsewhere. Considering its place in theatre, the National Theatre really needs to start taking action on diversity as actions speak louder than words and from where I was sitting, it didn't look great.

'If Katie Hopkins Ruled The World' Fails To Draw In The Crowds, With Just 68,000 Viewers Tuning In

We can only assume that Katie Hopkins is spending her Friday morning licking her wounds, following the news that the debut of her panel show, ‘If Katie Hopkins Ruled The World’, didn’t exactly pull in the viewers.

SEE MORE:

In fact, fewer than 70,000 viewers tuned in to watch the first episode of Katie’s controversial show on TLC, with the first episode drawing in a mere 68,000.

Admittedly, the show itself is on a fairly small channel, but when her weight loss documentary ‘My Fat Story’, debuted at the beginning of the year, it earned TLC its highest-ever viewing figures, with as many as 257,000 tuning in, which hardly bodes well for her latest effort.

katie hopkins

Still, low ratings are alright as long as it’s well-received, right?

Well, let’s just say people weren’t exactly thrilled at the first episode, which had all the eye-roll-inducing, body-shaming and personal remarks we’ve come to expect from the motormouth ‘Celebrity Big Brother’ runner-up.

Oh, and an appearance from The GC as well.

During the show, Katie courted controversy when she referred to one angry audience member as a “raging, angry fat person”, which is hardly the way to treat one’s studio audience, is it?

Katie’s foray into the world of television has been blighted with problems from the beginning, with reports earlier this year claiming that celebrity guests were dropping like flies out of her proposed talk show. Watch this space.

Mark Ronson Interview: The Slog Behind 'Uptown Funk', Working With Bose On Perfect Sounds, Finding His Next Musical Collaboration...

$

0
Mark Ronson could be leaning back in his chair and counting his Grammy Awards. He could be listening to ‘Back to Black’ and remembering how his work with friend and collaborator Amy Winehouse made musical titans out of both of them. Or he could be clicking on YouTube to see how many more millions have streamed the video for ‘Uptown Funk’, one of the year’s most omnipresent tracks.

Instead, there’s more work to be done, and he’s hungry for it, and to discover his next muse, as he tells HuffPostUK.

“Always at the top of my list was Stevie Wonder, and having him play on my album was magic,” he says. “I’d be greedy to have anything more than that. The next magic will come with discovering the next talent.

“Your legends and heroes are there because they’ve made some of the greatest music, but that’s the word – it’s made – it’s behind them, and I’m really keen to hold out for something new.

“The thing is, I’ve always done most of my best work with artists who weren’t necessarily massive at the time, so I don’t get caught up in the current names.

“The next person who inspires me… It’s going to happen. I’m out, going to clubs, DJing, having conversations.”

Even with the pedigree in his craft, Mark remains as surprised as anyone by the success of ‘Uptown Funk’, now watched a stunning 900 million times on YouTube. But the ringmaster of that mammoth is quick to credit the talented people around him in the studio, not least vocalist Bruno Mars.

“I know all the work that went into it, and I’ve never worked so hard,” Mark says calmly. “There were so many talented people working on one song. But you don’t control what happens when it comes out. For some reason, everybody needed that record to come along when it did.

“We would be in the studio at 6am working on some aspect, and I would think ‘that’s good enough’, but Bruno would be standing over my shoulder and he’d say, ‘No, we’re going to stay, it can be better.’

“Perhaps it’s too early to compare Bruno to Michael Jackson, he’s only made two albums, but it’s those instincts that make up the greats.

“And maybe it’s the job of us producers to recognise that when it happens, and respond to it.”

Recently, Mark has teamed up with sound innovators Bose on the series ‘Dropping Science’ and this leads us to discuss what he describes as the thoroughness at the core of his success…

“I think you could definitely say the way people get most of their music has levelled the playing field, but there’s still something to be said about taking the time,” he says, referring to the hours he spends arranging his sounds.

“You could say, who cares? But it’s what made ‘Back to Black’ so special. As well as Amy’s voice, it was the tone, which so many people had tried to do before, including me. I’d tried to achieve it so many times, and it had never been authentic.”

He shrugs. “That’s all I have. The sound is the work I put into it.

“Even with ‘Uptown Funk’, which is a more modern clubby record, Bruno and I slaved. I must have recorded those drum sounds 80 times.

“The little kid singing along to his radio might not know until he’s 18 what went into it, but there’s a difference, and I like to think that’s what makes it stand out on the radio.”

Mark is arguably the most critically acclaimed of a new wave of producers who’ve increasingly come to share the spotlight with those artists out front. Despite his success, he’s reticent to compare himself with the other titans…

“I trace it to Pharrell and Timbaland,” is his view. “Those were the names you could trust that a record would be good whoever the artist was. And then Calvin Harris is incredibly prolific, he releases something every four months and whoever’s on it, it’s a banger...

“I just don’t think of myself like that… I feel a douche talking about myself like that. I’ve been incredibly fortunate to work with the most talented of this present generation and also been making music consistently good with these people for a while, so it means people might check it out…” he tails off, evidently as uncomfortable talking about his heightened profile as he was comfortable donning hair curlers and camping it up with Bruno Mars for the ‘Uptown Funk’ video.

If being in the studio, either as a writer or producer – “I just get in where I fit in, to borrow an old hip hop expression” is how he describes his diverse range of skills – is the day job, even with those 6am finishes, this same thoroughness runs through his night job of running around the world as an internationally renowned DJ.

“I don’t see it as a job at all,” he smiles. “My whole life is about exposing and creating music that people haven’t heard. There’s no better feeling than pulling out a record that people haven’t heard in a while, or pulling out a new one, and seeing the floor fill up.”

mark ronson
Mark Ronson with Amy Winehouse at the Brit Awards in 2008

It’s for this reason that, for someone who takes music as seriously as Mark, there is no such thing as a ‘guilty pleasure’.

“I DJ’d back to back in Australia recently,” he reports, “and I was playing big hip hop records good for sweaty club. Then the other DJ would play something by Savage Garden, people would go flipping crazy, and that made me think twice.

“If it’s something you like, there’s no reason to be guilty about it. The more genre-less way we’ve consumed music in the past 15 years, it’s eroded that sense of guilty. Everyone’s flipping between the genres.”

With so much critical and commercial acclaim to his name a month short of his 40th birthday, Mark Ronson could be forgiven for stopping, stepping off the beat for a while, enjoying his success. But he’s having none of it.

“You’re only as good as your last record,” he says. “The only reason I’ve got to this place is not worrying too much about what’s hot, and just doing things that are worthwhile. And when you do that, you’re not going to hit it every time, but you make stuff that you can stand by."

And how will he recognise his next muse when he or she appears? He’s not sure…

“I don’t recognise the muses when they come in the room. I’d be lying if I said I knew straight away. But there are certainly a series of things that happen, you both start talking about some random obscure recording, ‘oh, you like that…I like that too.’

“Sometimes it take a minute, or sometimes a lot longer to open up. It takes a lot of trust as well. And then the walls come down.”

Mark Ronson has co-created Droppin' Science with Bose, innovators in sound. Watch the first three episodes above, exclusive to HuffPostUK. The series has six parts in total.

'By The Sea' Trailer: Brad Pitt And Angelina Jolie Reunite On Screen In New Clip (VIDEO)

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie appear on screen together for the first time in a decade, in the newly-released trailer for ‘By The Sea’.

READ MORE:

Their first film outing, ‘Mr And Mrs Smith’, was a tongue-in-cheek romantic comedy about a complacent husband and wife, secretly both hiding the fact that they’re secret agents from the other (it also also boasts a sex scene which repeatedly named among the hottest in cinema history).

However, their latest project, ‘By The Sea’, looks to be a decidedly more serious affair.

Written and directed by Angelina - as well as being co-produced by both Brad and Angelina - the dramatic film tells the story of a couple whose relationship has grown stale, who decide to take a trip together, as a last-ditch attempt at saving their marriage.

Tellingly, though, the pair are only shown on screen at the same time for a matter of seconds in the whole trailer, including one scene where they lie awkwardly on a bed together.

The drama is ramped up towards the end of the clip, when Brad’s character asks his wife whether she hates him, before ordering her to slap him.

Watch the full trailer below:

Away from the spotlight, Brad and Angelina tied the knot in secret last year, in a private ceremony attended by just their children.

‘By The Sea’ is currently slated for release on 13 November.

Sarah Harding's Dodgy Miming To Her Single 'Threads' On 'Lorraine' Hasn't Impressed Twitter Much (VIDEO)

Poor old Sarah Harding can’t seem to do anything right at the moment.

READ MORE:

Just a week after she made her ‘Coronation Street’ acting debut and subsequently saw Twitter tear her apart (to be fair, she was pretty bloody awful), la Harding is now weathering another Twitter storm following her appearance on Friday’s ‘Lorraine’.

The former Girls Aloud star was on the show to plug her debut solo single ‘Threads’, which included a performance of the tune (we use that word in the loosest possible way).

sarah harding
Sarah Harding on 'Lorraine'

As we know from that legendary bum note Sarah squawked during Girls Aloud’s performance of ‘The Loving Kind’ on GMTV back in 2008, early mornings obviously aren’t her strong point, so she wisely (or so she thought at the time) chose to mime.

Except her lip-syncing wasn’t up to much either, as Twitter was only too keen to highlight…

Oh well, at least Sarah’s former bandmate Nadine Coyle is a fan…

Watch Sarah attempt to remember the words to her own song in the video above.

Chin up Sarah, you're not the first pop star to suck at miming - even Cheryl's had her moment...

‘Coronation Street’ fans are in for a shock when murderer Rob Donovan makes a return to the soap.

SEE MORE:

Rob - played by Marc Baylis - was famously responsible for the death of Tina McIntyre last year, pushing Michelle Keegan’s character off some scaffolding before finishing her off with a lead pipe, when she threatened to expose his secrets.

However, just because he’s now behind bars doesn't mean that’s going to stop Rob from calling the shots, and he’s about to shake things up for a number of Weatherfield residents, when they receive visitors’ requests from him in jail.

rob
Marc Baylis, who plays Rob Donovan

Speaking about his upcoming ‘Corrie’ comeback, Marc claims: "I can’t wait to play Rob again and see what he has up his sleeve, one thing is certain - prison won’t stop Rob from affecting lives on the street."

His return spells trouble for one resident in particular, with bad news thought to be on the horizon for his sister, Carla Connor.

Rob is apparently about to spill a family secret, which will have serious repercussions for the factory owner.

Earlier this year, it was reported that Alison King, who plays Carla, was planning to bow out of the ITV soap for a while, after almost a decade on the cobbles.

A ‘Corrie’ spokesperson confirmed that Alison would be taking “a sabbatical from the show for creative reasons”.

Cilla Black Back In The Charts After 30 Years With Compilation Album 'The Very Best Of'

Cilla Black has made a posthumous comeback to the UK music charts for the first time in more than three decades, with her compilation album The Very Best Of.

The greatest hits collection, most recently re-released in 2013, landed its highest ever chart position in the 14th spot as fans pay tribute to the TV star and singer, who died of a stroke after falling and hitting her head at her Spanish villa in the Costa del Sol last weekend.

It is Black's highest charting album in 47 years, since Sher-oo in 1968, according to the Official Charts Company.

Her former Number One single Anyone Who Had A Heart, first released in 1964, also returned to the charts in the 41th place, marking its highest chart position in 51 years.

One Direction takes the top spot from Little Mix with their new single Drag Me Down, which was a surprise release on July 31.

The track - the group's first track as a quartet without Zayn Malik - has broken the streaming record, racking up 2.03 million plays in its opening week across streaming services such as Spotify, Apple Music and Deezer.

Drag Me Down is the boyband's fourth Number One In the UK singles chart, following What Makes You Beautiful in 2011, Little Things in 2012 and the official Comic Relief single, One Way Or Another (Teenage Kicks) in 2013.

Calvin Harris and Disciples' new song How Deep Is Your Love, with a music video featuring model Gigi Hadid, takes the second spot, followed by Little Mix with Black Magic.

London-based group The Maccabees - Orlando Weeks, Felix White, Hugo White, Rupert Jarvis, Sam Doyle and Will White - thanked fans as their new album Marks To Prove It topped the charts.

It is their first Number One album, having beaten Lianne La Havas' second full-length record Blood, Years And Years' debut Communion, Ed Sheeran's x and Sam Smith's In The Lonely Hour.

"We are very proud that our fourth album has given us our first Number 1," guitarist White told OfficialCharts.com. "Thank you so much to everyone that bought it and for staying with us all these years."

Guy Ritchie Backs David Beckham As An Actor

Former footballer David Beckham has a promising career as an actor, Guy Ritchie has said.

The ex-England star makes a cameo as the projectionist in Ritchie's new film, The Man From UNCLE, which had its UK debut as the Film4 People's Premiere of the Somerset House outdoor screenings.

Beckham, 40, also has a role in Knights of the Round Table: King Arthur, which Ritchie directs, despite the sportsman previously saying he is "too stiff" for the big screen.

The Lock, Stock And Two Smoking Barrels film-maker said: "We've put him in Arthur, which we've just finished, and he was fabulous in that. He's got a bigger role in that.

"We'll go steadily with David and see where that goes. He does enjoy it (acting)."

The 46-year-old director and his model wife Jacqui - wearing a white Alice Temperley gown - made their first red carpet appearance as Mr and Mrs Ritchie since they married in a three-day wedding extravaganza at their Wiltshire home on July 30.

The couple showed they were still enjoying the honeymoon phase as they posed for photos on two cream Vespas.

Ritchie, who said he has "just about recovered", joked about bringing his directing discipline to the nuptials, saying: "It's much easier for me to get my head around things if I see them as films."

The Man From UNCLE, based on the original 60s show, stars Superman actor Henry Cavill and Armie Hammer in the spy roles originally played by Robert Vaughn and David McCallum.

"You don't think about them doing it, just you, and you work closely with your director and co-stars and build a character," Cavill said.

"It's not necessarily about putting your own stamp on it, it's about doing a job and it's a new beginning so I haven't got enough to compare it to."

The 32-year-old, best known for playing Superman in Man Of Steel, admitted he has not watched the TV show, saying: "I didn't see the original series. I still haven't because I asked Guy and he said no."

Hugh Grant and Alicia Vikander also star in The Man From UNCLE, which opens in UK cinemas on August 14.

Katie Price has teased that her forthcoming autobiography could be her most shocking yet, joking that she’ll be spilling the beans to such an extent that she could well need to “leave the country” once it’s released.

READ MORE:

The Pricey is currently gearing up for the release of her sixth autobiography (yes, you read that right, sixth), which is coming out in October.

The autobiography will be her first since 2013’s ‘Love, Lipstick And Lies’, and we all know a whole lot has gone down since then, including the birth of her daughter, Bunny, her husband Kieran Hayler’s infidelity and winning ‘Celebrity Big Brother’ back in January.

However, what’s really had people talking is the fact that she’ll also be discussing a few secret relationships with high-profile men that she’s never revealed before - and it sounds like the sensational details could raise a few eyebrows.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, Katie remarked: “I think I’d better leave the country when it comes out.

“There are lots of things in this one I left out of the last one. There are a couple of guys in there who’ve upset me so I think it’s about time I tell the truth about them. They’re household names.

“I’ll be disappearing to the Maldives or somewhere where no one can see me once it’s out. I was seeing one of them for two or three months before Kieran.”

Dropping hints about her mystery ex’s identity, Katie added: “He’s a world-famous professional and it’s… oh my God, if people knew. He’s British.”

Since leaving the ‘CBB’ house in January, the former glamour model has barely been away from the headlines, and renewed her wedding vows with husband Kieran back in February, after two years of marriage.

Miley Cyrus has taken aim at Taylor Swift, claiming she doesn’t think she’s setting a good example for her young fans.

READ MORE:

Specifically, Miley is referring to Taylor’s ‘Bad Blood’ video, which sees her rounding up a squad of her famous friends, including Cara Delevingne, Ellie Goulding and Lena Dunham, to take revenge on a former pal who wronged her.

However, Miley has now claimed that she doesn't think the controversial music video’s violent imagery is something Taylor should be exposing her fans to.

Speaking about the video in the new issue of Marie Claire, Miley claims: “I don't get the violence revenge thing. That's supposed to be a good example? And I'm a bad role model because I'm running around with my titties out?

“I'm not sure how titties are worse than guns.”

Miley claims the violent video sets a bad example

‘Bad Blood’ is thought to refer to a fall-out between Taylor and Katy Perry, claims that the ‘1989’ singer has never dispelled.

Katy recently threw shade at the track on Twitter, after Taylor became involved in some Twitter beef with Nicki Minaj, accusing the rapper of trying to “pit women against each other” (which… err… she wasn’t, but OK).

Posting on her own Twitter page, Katy said: “Finding it ironic to parade the pit women against other women argument about as one unmeasurably capitalizes on the take down of a woman…”

Ouch.

Caitlyn Jenner has posed for a photo with her ex-wife Kris Jenner, for the first time since she began living publicly as a woman.

SEE MORE:

The two were previously married for over 20 years, eventually having their divorce finalised in March of this year, months before Caitlyn came out to the world as transgender.

Since then, Kris has praised Caitlyn’s gender transition on a number of occasions, most notably when she delivered an emotional speech at the ESPY Awards, where her children were almost all in attendance.

However, they’ve not yet been seen together… until now.

Kris and Caitlyn were reunited at a party to celebrate their daughter, Kylie Jenner’s 18th birthday party, and marked the occasion with a selfie, alongside Kim Kardashian.

Kim shared the photo on her Twitter page, along with the caption ‘The Parent Trap’

It has previously been claimed that Kris paid her first visit to Caitlyn’s home in Malibu at the tail-end of last month, with a camera crew present to record their meeting for the E! reality series ‘I Am Cait’.

The first episode of the reality show saw Caitlyn meeting Kylie, Kim and Kanye West for the first time, with the ‘Yeezus’ rapper claiming that Caitlyn’s story is “one of the strongest things that have happened in our existence”.

Since her divorce, Kris has been romantically linked with business executive Corey Gamble, while Caitlyn has been rumoured to be dating transgender activist and performance artist Candis Cayne, who makes her debut appearance in the second episode of ‘I Am Cait’, airing in the UK on Sunday (9 August).

Emma Willis and Rylan Clark have gone all ‘Downton Abbey’ on us, in the newly-released trailer for ‘Celebrity Big Brother’.

READ MORE:

The presenting duo are seen sipping tea and sporting their finery in the new clip, which promotes this summer’s series of the Channel 5 reality show.

Don’t worry, though, it’s all just a bit of fun to promote the show’s ‘UK vs USA’ theme, which will see celebrity housemates from both sides of the Atlantic pitted against each other in an “epic” showdown.

The new clip sees the presenters trying to bring a bit of quintessentially British elegance to the proceedings, only to be eclipsed by an OTT American voiceover, who describes the “smackdown” that ‘CBB’ viewers can look forward to over the next few weeks.

On Friday, the new-look eye was also unveiled, containing elements of both the American and British flags.

It was previously reported that the series’ theme would also see the house undergoing a dramatic transformation, while contestants from both sides of the Atlantic went head-to-head in an “epic” battle.

So far, it’s not known who will be entering the house, although that hasn’t stopped people from speculating.

Among the British celebs thought to be taking part are ‘Loose Women’ panelist Sherrie Hewson, Internet "comedian" Dapper Laughs and “selfie queen” Karen Danczuk.

Meanwhile, among the potential American housemates are ‘Teen Mom’-turned-pornstar Farrah Abraham and supermodel extraordinaire Janice Dickinson.

However, one famous face thought to be causing a bit of grief for producers before the show has even begun is Australian ‘Dancing On Ice’ judge Jason Gardiner, with bosses reportedly unsure exactly which side to place him on.

Emma Willis will host the launch of this summer's 'Celebrity Big Brother' on Channel 5, later in the month.

Perrie Edwards has taken the next step in moving on from ex-fiancé Zayn Malik, deleting all of the photos of him from her Instagram page.

SEE MORE:

The Little Mix singer has also unfollowed Zayn on the band’s Twitter page, following the news earlier this week that he had called time on their relationship, two years after they announced that they were engaged.

During their relationship, Perrie’s Instagram page was one of the few places that fans could get a look at the couple, who were rarely photographed in public together.

Earlier this year, it was on Perrie’s Instagram that Zayn first showed off his newly-dyed green hair, while they also shared snaps from their holiday together, shortly after he announced that he had quit One Direction.

However, she’s now removed all pictures of him from her social media page, severing ties with him even further.

Zayn is still yet to acknowledge the split, safe for a few bizarre posts on his Twitter page, but he was recently photographed debuting a new tattoo on his arm, following the end of his relationship.

Perrie, meanwhile, recently said she was “doing good”, when quizzed by an American reporters about how she was coping with the break-up.

While promoting their latest single, ‘Black Magic’, in the US, Perrie’s bandmates were seen trying to cheer her up, with Leigh-Anne Pinnock even putting on a show for paparazzi photographers, so they weren’t able to get a glum-looking photo of her friend.

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West have reportedly picked a name for their unborn son, and despite her protestations to the country, it looks like they’ll also be giving their second child a direction-inspired name.

SEE MORE:

The famous couple made headlines two years ago, when they announced their decision to call their daughter North, and it’s now been claimed that their son will be named... Easton West.

According to the Mail Online, the couple want to already have a name picked when their son is born, so they can pick out “monogrammed” clothes and designs in his nursery especially for him.

A source explains: “Kourtney told a few girls at a Hidden Hills pool party last weekend that Kanye's favorite name by far is 'Easton', a name Kim wasn't hot on at first because Kanye liked simply 'East'. But Kim came up with Easton and, for them, history was made.

“No doubt monogrammed baby bibs are being hand-sewn as we speak. [Kim’s nephew] Mason is already calling his auntie's tummy Easton.”

Kim previously ruled out South West as a potential baby name, claiming that would be “the stupidest thing ever and just ridiculous”, insisting that North would always be “the better direction”.

After months of speculation, the ‘Keeping Up With The Kardashians’ star confirmed that she and Kanye were expecting their second child back in June, in a teaser for the reality series. She’s since revealed that the child will be a baby boy, due later this year.

will.i.am is reportedly bowing out as a judge on ‘The Voice’, after four years with the show.

SEE MORE:

The rapper and music producer has been with the UK version of the reality series since it launched in 2012, and has seen a string of judges come and go in the four-year period he’s been a coach.

However, with a fifth series currently lined up for next year, it’s now been claimed that he’s decided to leave, which comes after Rita Ora revealed that she would be defecting to rival series ‘The X Factor’.

A source tells the Daily Star on Sunday: “Will has been in discussions with producers but decided he doesn't want to return this year. He’s disappointed Rita Ora left and is frustrated the show has failed to produce an international star.”

Bosses at the show are said to be “desperate” for will.i.am to remain a coach next year, going as far as to offer him more money to stay on for another year, though it remains to be seen whether they’ll be successful in keeping him on.

It was recently reported that ITV were planning to buy ‘The Voice’ format from the BBC, following Culture Secretary John Whittingdale’s proposal that cuts should be made to the broadcaster’s spending, leading to the launch of consultation process to decide which of the corporation’s services would be affected.

Among the shows tipped to be in the firing line is ‘The Voice’, which has had millions spent on it since its UK launch four years ago, despite a lukewarm response from viewers - with reports claiming ITV were planning to swoop in and take over the show.

Meanwhile, attention now turns to who’ll be taking over from Rita on the upcoming fifth series, with signs indicating that Paloma Faith could be a potential replacement for the ‘I Will Never Let You Down’ singer.

Bethany Black has become the first transgender actress to land a role in the sci-fi series ‘Doctor Who’.

READ MORE:

The comedian and actress - best known for her role in Russell T Davies’ ‘Cucumber’ and ‘Banana’, earlier this year - revealed her excitement at landing the as-of-yet undisclosed part on her Facebook fan page, claiming this is a role she’s been hoping for since childhood.

She wrote: “It is genuinely the greatest job I could ever have imagined getting. Everything about it is magical.

"I'm enjoying every day of filming and cherishing it, because you never know if you'll ever get to do anything like this again.

"I only hope that I do the role and the show justice, and that you all enjoy it. For me it's the gig of a lifetime."

While it’s not yet known who Bethany will be playing in the series, she has said that the part is not transgender.

The forthcoming ninth series of ‘Doctor Who’ will be airing on the BBC next month.

Among the guest stars already confirmed for the show’s latest outing include ‘Game Of Thrones’ star Maisie Williams and Rebecca Front, who famously starred alongside the reigning Time Lord, Peter Capaldi, in ‘The Thick Of It’.

Jenna Coleman will also be returning as the Doctor’s assistant, Clara Oswald.

The BBC recently confirmed that a tenth series of ‘Doctor Who’ was in the works, due to air next autumn.

Sam Smith's Photobombing Needs Some Work, As He Slips By Unrecognised During News Report In Denver (VIDEO)

Sam Smith suffered a bit of a photobomb fail, when he appeared in the background of a news report in the US, but no one recognised him.

SEE MORE:

The ‘Stay With Me’ singer was in Denver to perform a sold-out gig on his American tour, when he spotted a local news broadcast going on while exploring the city near the venue.

Deciding to have a bit of fun, Sam was filmed giving a peace sign in the background, tilting his head backwards and generally playing up to the cameras during the segment, about a new national monument, Yoga On The Rocks.

Sam puts his photobombing skills to the test

However, what we’re guessing Sam didn’t bargain for was the fact that, despite his hit album, impressive collection of Grammy Awards and ever-expanding international fanbase, no one around actually looked like they recognised who he was.

In fact, the only acknowledgement he got was from a producer, who was heard muttering something about a “photobomb” while he carried on in the background.

sam
'Do they know who I am yet?' Errm....

Awks.

Earlier this week, ‘X-Men’ actor Hugh Jackman pulled off a slightly more successful photobomb attempt, when he surprised a journalist Down Under in the middle of a live broadcast (and actually got, y'know, recognised).

Of course, though, neither of them can compete with the reigning photobombing champion, Benedict Cumberbatch, whose attempts at sneaking in the background of people’s selfies have become as integral a part of awards ceremonies as wardrobe malfunctions and Jennifer Lawrence falling over.
