Chris Packham Wants To Pass The Wildlife Baton To Youngsters With Programmes Like 'Wildlife Jack'

Chris Packham is rubbing his eyes from late night World Cup viewing when I meet him, but his enthusiasm is infectious. Once he gets going, it’s clear that what we see on TV is only the tip of the iceberg of his passion and commitment to the cause of nature and wildlife that’s been burning in him since childhood.

Chris isn’t your average telly gun for hire, and we’re not likely to see him presenting The One Show any time soon. As he puts it, “If I could never appear on telly again, I’d just find another way of getting my message out. I don’t get out of bed to be on TV, I get out of bed to learn something.”

chris packham
Chris Packham is a familiar TV face, but it's not what motivates him

And that’s the vibe he wants youngsters to share with his new show ‘Wildlife Jack’, which finds him narrating the animated stories of Jack and his adventures, with real life footage of wildlife.

Why is the connection between children and wildlife important? Chris doesn't hesitate...

“The engagement is important as it seals a lifelong affinity for it. You need that because you are when no longer a child who’s fascinated by newts, working in a bank, a shop, driving a bus or in the Army, you’re still a voting decision maker, you’re a stakeholder on planet Earth, and you will at some point be in a position to make a decision that will benefit that wildlife, indirectly benefitting yourself.

"These programmes are great for instigating an interest, but they’re not a means of satisfying it, there’ll always be a thirst. The real reward is getting it yourself.

“I’d rather spend 10 minutes with a wood louse on the palm of my hand than 10 minutes watching a tiger on TV because I can feel it, touch it. From a kid’s point of view, that’s far more what it’s all about.”

Chris, evangelically enthused AND politically savvy, makes for a convincing combination.

“There’s no doubt that time in the country is beneficial to us,” he says. “ It’s scientifically proven, the colour green increases healing rates. As well as quality of life in terms of enjoying it, being there, we can empathise and understand that if we trash all of that, we trash ourselves.

“It’s an interesting time, because people are so much more aware, which is why fracking isn’t allowed to go on uncontested in a way it would have done 10, 15 years ago.

“What we don’t have is the ability to elect and place decision-makers who are sufficiently educated to make decisions that affect planet Earth.

“Instead, bubbling beneath, we have generations of people with a far more sophisticated knowledge of sustainability, biodiversity, and so within a short space of time, those people will be there. We just have to bide our time, and understand the reasons for our frustration at the moment.”

He grins conspiratorially. “If you have a bias because you’ve engaged, all the better, then we’ll get your pound in the pot and you’ll be on side when some difficult decisions have to be made.”

What does success look like to Chris, who’s been on wildlife watch for four decades now?

“Finding someone else who’s going to take the baton,” he reflects, hence his involvement with 'Wildlife Jack'. “Someone else will be doing my job in 50 years, hopefully a legion of young Jacks and Jackies.”

If there are a few people in this world born to do a job, Chris Packham is clearly among them. It’s as though the TV gig to which many would aspire is just another means through which he operates which, in this day of selfie-dom, is a breath of fresh air. What’s the best bit, I wonder?

“The best part of my job, the selfish bit, is that I learn something new every day,” he weighs up. “I admit was out of date about farming and I had a great conversation with a farmer yesterday, so I felt better.

“TV’s always a struggle because I get so distracted by what I’m doing. They have to chivvy me. When we’re doing live programmes, I’ll be constantly stopping them and telling them I’ve found something more interesting.”

So is Chris Packham animal lover, wildlife activist or political firebrand? “All of the above,” he admits. “It’s great meeting all the animals, but I want more.”

And the eyes, still red from late night World Cup duties, gleam again with fresh purpose.

'Wildlife Jack' is available on DVD and download from Disney Junior - more information here. Watch the taster episode below...

The ‘Made In Chelsea’ gang have given us a taster of what to expect in the upcoming ‘MIC NYC’ specials, which are currently being filmed in the Big Apple.

Spencer Matthews, Lucy Watson, Binky Felstead and her on-off boyfriend Alex Mytton all star in the hilarious spoof video, where the cast explain what NYC means to them.

'MIC NYC' hits TV screens later this year

Newcomer Riley and everyone’s favourite dandy Mark Francis are also in the short clip, as is Proudlock.

Despite the fact Cheska Hull and Fran have been filming the new episodes in New York, they haven’t made the cut for the new trailer.

Louise Thompson is also missing from the preview, despite the fact she’s been tweeting her way through the New York filming.

The last series of ‘MIC’ was another explosive one, with many scenes focusing on Alex’s inability to stay faithful to Binky.

There was also more tension between Jamie and Lucy as the pair argued when Jamie decided to take Riley out on a series of dates .

Kelly Brook's Fiancé David McIntosh Goes A Different Kind Of Half-Naked In Barely-There Shorts (PICS)

Kelly Brook and her fiancé David McIntosh were photographed once again enjoying an afternoon out together in Los Angeles… though it looks like David forgot a rather crucial item of clothing.

We’re so used to seeing David without a shirt that it took us by surprise to see him wearing an oversized vest-top as he strolled the streets with Kelly, though the muscleman is clearly getting too used to being half-naked, and apparently thought that the LA streets were ‘trousers optional’.

To clear things up for you, David, they aren’t.

However, while it might appear that the former ‘Gladiators’ star had committed a massive fashion faux pas and neglected to wear any bottoms, he was actually wearing a pair of the world’s shortest shorts that showed off his sculpted legs in all their glory. And very nearly showed something else off too.

shorts
What do you know - he is wearing something down there

This is just the latest ensemble in David’s ‘unusual fashion’ back catalogue, as last week he also stepped out to the gym wearing some of the tightest leggings we’ve ever laid eyes on.

His unorthodox fashion choice would almost be forgivable if we thought they were headed out to the gym together, but it turns out they were actually on their way to lunch. In those leggings. It’s almost enough to put you off your chicken wrap, isn’t it?

Good grief

Last month, David put in an unexpected appearance at the BET Awards as part of Jennifer Hudson’s performance, where - of course - he whipped his top off and donned a pair of leather trousers.

Seriously, Kelly. You're planning to marry this man. Have a word about that wardrobe, please.

Do Motown Stars Use Botox? Not Smokey Robinson That's for Sure

$

When we thought about who to put in our top ten celebrity interview list, we realized that we've formed relationships with some of the most unlikely people on our journey as radio presenters, and we still feel surprised at some of them. We first met Smokey Robinson on a red carpet in Cardiff. It was the occasion of the Michael Jackson Memorial concert and we had gone there to interview him and the Jackson Brothers. While we were waiting for Smokey Robinson to finish other interviews on the red carpet before he got to us, Livvy said in what she thought was a quiet whisper "Doesn't Smokey Robinson look amazing..... do you think he has had any Botox?" Now.....never, ever think you won't be heard .......what is it about whispering ....it can carry ....not a good idea! Now Smokey does look great for his age, but unbeknown to us, his manager was standing near to us and came over and quietly yet firmly "Mr Smokey Robinson has NOT had Botox!" However, in normal Livvy style, they got into a chat about how great Smokey looked. Mind you, afterwards we had to admit it was all ...well...a bit embarrassing....but it made us want to have Botox so we could look that good at 72!

Smokey Robinson is one of the most genuine people we have met in the business to date and extremely modest....in the interview Livvy said to him: "Well you are the King of Soul" but he wouldn't have any of it and she had to repeat it and get quite firm with him to even consider this accolade. This man Smokey Robinson had been running Motown as well! On the photo shoot with him, where we have some great shots of us together, he was a star........and a few months later we were talking to his agency as we were setting up a Christmas message with Smokey for the Christmas special and they told us the photos of us together were on his office wall......well, really? This was the beginning. He has rang us from the States on several occasions and we like to think we are part of his 'family'....he told us once how all his Motown colleagues were like his extended family and how his faith keeps his feet on the ground. Another time we were running a piece on how in marriage and relationships and how, when couples argue, women can have the list....you know the one where you say: "In the 1980's you said...." And so we asked him "Does this happen in your marriage as well?" Well, he knew exactly what we meant and we had a really good laugh about the 'lists' that women keep and how we never ever forget anything, especially in those rows .....and can bring up any mistake years later as evidence

When we did a rap song live on air with Charles Hazlewood and Adrian Utley of Portishead as a challenge, it went: "We're Women of a Certain Age....we've got hormonal rage...we get hot....you get bothered" and we one of the verses mentioned Smokey in it ......and so we sent him a copy.......not to be a pop star you must realise, more for fun.

Smokey rang us after his Radio 2 Show last year in Hyde Park for a catch up interview. Now you may not know, but Smokey had been a radio DJ for quite some while in LA; well, of course, we had to ask him to come and do the show in Bristol with us, and we were going to play lots of Motown and his favourite tracks and get him to introduce them. He loved the idea but he couldn't do it at that time as he was releasing a new album and the schedule was too tight.....so here we are, and looking forward to when he is next here in the UK so we can do The Mr Smokey Robinson and Livvy and Chrissie Show special.

Next blog.....how we are going to be forming a band with the Rt. Hon Nick Clegg one day......

Gaza Offensive: Israeli Filmmakers Sign Petition, Urging Israeli Government To Hold Ceasefire On Attacks On Gaza Strip

A group of Israeli filmmakers have added their voices to those pleading for a ceasefire to the attacks by their Government on the Gaza Strip.

At the Jerusalem Film Festival, this group broke into the schedule with an impromptu press conference to declare their concerns for citizens, including children, on both sides of the divide, as this chapter of conflict reaches its seventh day.

israel gaza offensive
Filmmakers in Jerusalem today have expressed their deep concern for victims of the conflict

"We call the Israeli government to cease fire; we urge it not to send our troops to be killed again, in another pointless, cruel military campaign," said the group, consisting of filmmakers Efrat Corem, Shira Geffen, Ronit Elkabetz, Keren Yedaya, Tali Shalom Ezer, Nadav Lapid. Shlomi Elkabetz and Bozi Gete.

"We are scared too," they said. "Some of us are parents. Our children are terrified of the code red sirens and of the thundering sounds of warfare. We do not seek revenge and do not believe in a military solution; this has proven futile in the past.

"Children in Gaza do not enjoy the protection of the Iron Dome systems. They have no residential secured spaces, and no sirens.

"Children living in Gaza today are our partners in peace tomorrow."

READ their statement in full below.

This statement follows the decision earlier today to cancel a Neil Young concert in Tel Aviv, because Israeli police said they could not guarantee the safety of Mr Young or his fans.

International observers continue to express their concern as the tension escalates between Israeli and Palestinian authorities. In Jerusalem, where the 31st Film Festival is currently taking place, sirens have been regularly going off in the city, the signal for everyone to take shelter from rockets fired by Palestinians.

Israel claims that 1,000 rockets have been fired in the last week, and that it destroyed a drone near Ashdod - a town on the coast halfway between Gaza and Tel Aviv - on Monday morning.

The Israelis have in place an Iron Dome defence system, which detects the whereabouts of the rockets and sends up missiles to deflect or destroy them. So far, no Israelis have been killed in this most recent bout of fighting. Palestinians have put the most recent toll of their people killed at 172 fatalities.

Here is the filmmakers' statement in full...

"We, the undersigned, Israeli directors whose films participate in the Jerusalem Film Festival, believe that in these violent days, it is impossible to talk only about cinema while ignoring the killing and horrifying events around us.

"We are scared too. Some of us are parents.

"Children living in Gaza today are our partners in peace tomorrow. The killing and horror we inflict only push any diplomatic solution further away.

"Cameras here, in Israel, film and tell about the suffering and pain of Israeli citizens subject to missile attacks. They do this on a daily basis. It is important for us to state that we deeply sympathise with Israelis living in Southern Israel, who have found themselves in the battlefront. They are innocent men, women and children that have lived through an unimaginable nightmare for years. They are entitled to full protection, but there is another way!

"A dialogue must be established, an acknowledgment of the suffering of the other. Today, we want to direct those cameras to the suffering of Gaza residents, men, women and children killed during the last few days. Those filming the suffering of Israelis should be courageous and honest enough to film the killing and destruction in Gaza as well, and tell that story as well. The pain of Israelis and Palestinians is intertwined, and the first cannot cease as long as the other continues.

"The "life goes on" conception, by which surrounding events cannot and will not affect our everyday dealings, is morally impossible. In these terrible days, we as artists and creators expect from ourselves, the festival's administration, the spectators and the media to use this event to issue a clear, loud cry for change.

"We call the Israeli government to cease fire; we urge it not to send our troops to be killed again, in another pointless, cruel military campaign; we call it to engage in meaningful dialogue with the Palestinian people and its leaders, to achieve a viable peace for both sides."

Cheryl Cole Married: Katie Hopkins Slams 'X Factor' Judge's Decision To Marry Jean-Bernard Fernandez-Versini After Just Three Months

You’re not going to believe this, everyone. The famously shy and retiring Katie Hopkins has had something to say about the news everyone’s talking about, Cheryl Cole’s impromptu wedding to her new French beau Jean-Bernard Fernandez-Versini.

Nope, we can’t believe it either. We weren’t even aware Katie knew how to form an opinion. Good for her, this is real progress.

On Monday morning, Cheryl broke the news that she’d married Jean-Bernard in a private ceremony last week following a whirlwind romance of just three months, and while her fans have flooded Twitter with messages of congratulations, Katie is predictably gloomy about the whole thing.

katie hopkins
Katie Hopkins

Referring to Chezza’s infamous bum tattoo, she wrote: “Cheryl marries after three month relationship. That's right up there with the decision to turn her a*** into a bush of roses.”

The former Girls Aloud singer recently revealed during an appearance on ‘The Graham Norton Show’ that after recovering from malaria she’d developed a new “f*** it” attitude and decided to splash out on the floral tattoo on her backside - which we’re guessing was the same attitude she had when she decided to follow her heart and marry the handsome French man she’d met just months earlier.

It sounds like her private ceremony was a far cry from the lavish celebration she had for her first marriage to footballer Ashley Cole, who she eventually divorced in 2010 after a string of women came forward claiming to have slept with him.

In fact, rather than Cheryl calling up every magazine in town, the intimate ceremony was believed to have been attended by just four guest, including her mother, Joan Callaghan.

Cheryl is just one of many celebs Katie has been gunning for lately. She's previously criticised Kim Kardashian's parenting, Tom Daley's coming out video and Susanna Reid's presenting skills.

Rupert Murdoch, Elderly Media Baron, Says We Should Be 'Sceptical' About Climate Change

Rupert Murdoch doesn’t understand climate change. The ageing media baron, who was interviewed on Sky News Australia - partly owned by the Murdoch empire - on Sunday, was asked about the scientific research that shows that man-made climate change will have a devastating impact on the earth over the next 100 years.

Trumpeting a view oft-heard on the Murdoch-owned Fox News channel, the octogenarian press mogul dismissed years of peer-reviewed scientific research, preferring to voice his own theory that climate change was somehow a natural process.

"We should approach climate change with great scepticism," he said. "Climate change has been going on as long as the planet is here. There will always be a little bit of it. We can't stop it, we've just got to stop building vast houses on seashores. The world has been changing for thousands and thousands of years, it’s just a lot more complicated today because we are more advanced."

Last month Fox News criticised an opinion piece in the Arizona Daily Sun entitled, "It's not censorship by ignoring those denying climate change". In the segment, the broadcaster argued that by failing to include reference to climate change denial the newspaper was ignoring "balance". In recent weeks, British comedian John Oliver mocked this notion of "balance" by pitting 97 climate scientists against three climate change deniers.

In early July, Louisiana state representative Lenar Whitney said that global warming was "the greatest deception in the history of mankind", suggesting the near-universal agreement between the globe’s scientific community was nothing more than the work of a shadowy cabal bent on empowering the US executive branch and increasing taxes.

Should We Be Thinking Outside the Box?

Forget about your regular, non-celebrity friends and acquaintances, you really must catch up with Kiefer Sutherland. It's been ages since you last saw him.

And now he's in London, well, you've got the perfect excuse. Mind you, he's only here for 24 hours. (That's the difficulty with him. He's only ever anywhere for 24 hours. What is it with that man)?

Then he'll be off again. Probably back to LA. But then you know what these Hollywood stars are like. "Busy busy busy", as they say.

Come on, Kiefer, love. We all lead frantic lives. OK, you may have the world to save and terrorists to thwart. Alas, we've got the shopping to do, the kids to bath and put to bed, the dog to walk, the dinner to cook, the washing up to do and the basket of crumpled laundry to iron.

Frankly, it's a miracle any of us have got the opportunity to see the likes of Mr. Sutherland. Not to mention catching up with Tyra Banks (America's Next Top Model), Steve Buscemi (Boardwalk Empire), Danny Dyer (EastEnders), Gregg Wallace (Masterchef, Celebrity Masterchef' and Masterchef- The Professionals), Claire Danes (Homeland), Hugh Bonneville (Downton Abbey), Seth MacFarlane (Family Guy) and Doctor Christian Jensen (Embarrassing Bodies). After viewing this modern day equivalent of a circus freak show- don't watch it on a full stomach- somehow your slightly misshapen belly button no longer seems such a concern. Are people so desperate for TV exposure these days that they're willing to have the nation witness their prolapsed vagina or acute piles?

Just imagine being in a crowded branch of Starbucks a short while later, only to have some insensitive passer-by screams out: "Weren't you the one with the floppy fanny?"

The sad fact is that there's never been more TV programmes. There's never been more TV channels. There's never been more ways to watch TV, including catch up, on demand and live streaming via your phone. And, of course, there's never been more TV reviewers.

Selfishly risking type 2 diabetes by sitting on their backsides in front of the screen morning, noon and night, they tell us what we missed while we were doing stupid, trivial and far less important things such as trying to find 10 minutes to have sex in a half-hearted attempt to keep our personal relationships alive.

On the next occasion your husband/wife/boyfriend/girlfriend accuses you of losing all connection in the bedroom (they're not referring to your broadband connection), maybe it's time to put down the ipad you're holding aloft and instead concentrate on the matter in hand. Surely the latest episode of Game Of Thrones can wait. Says who?

"Oh no, it's buffering". That's why you should have got Superfast WiFi.

For the telly addicts amongst us- we currently watch between four to six hours a day, which could amount to a staggering quarter of our lives-there's no better invention than Sky+ and Virgin's Tivo Box.

Both of these wonders of modern technology (Sky's latest 2TB version can store a whopping 350 hours of HD quality TV and almost 1200 of hours of normal TV) allow you to record your favourite shows and series to watch at a later date when you've got the time to spare.

The only dilemma is that this time never comes. As the unwatched programmes you've saved gradually mount up, you realise that you only have 5% of space left.

This leaves you with the excruciating predicament of what to delete.

Delete, delete, delete. Good God! did someone mention delete? The word's not in your vocabulary, is it?

Obviously, you can't delete a single thing. What, not even All Star Mr & Mrs, Posh Pawn (unfortunately not spelt incorrectly), Storage Wars and the Miss Marple episode- 'A Pocketful of Rye'-that you've already seen five times before? Definitely not Storage Wars. "Please, anything but Storage Wars, you hear yourself cry.

Now, however, is the moment to be brutal. It's like going through your wardrobe and throwing away clothes you haven't worn for years and you know you're never going to wear again.

Think of Fifteen to One as that grotesque faux Pucci top. Think of David Dickinson's Real Deal as that reversible brown leather men's bomber with purple-dyed rabbit's fur. Think of A League of Their Own as that luminous shell suit.

As your finger hovers over the yellow button on your remote, don't for one single second consider going back on your momentous decision. Go ahead, press it.

Suddenly your box's capacity has climbed all the way back up to 12%. Well done.

This is only the beginning though. You've got a long way to go before you can successfully free yourself from the tyranny of television in all its different and evil guises.

Before that, you've still got to watch those 36 episodes of Cake Boss you recorded on TLC. (Sky channel 200).

Naga began her career as a financial journalist before switching to television and regularly appearing on BBC World News.

“I’m so happy to be joining such a successful, popular programme,” Naga said of the move. “It’s a real privilege to be on a team which is a big part of the morning routine for millions of viewers in the UK. I’m thrilled that I’ll have my own seat on that famous red sofa.”

Alongside her presenting and journalism commitments, Naga is a keen golfer, ran the London Marathon last year and has also won ‘Celebrity Mastermind’.

BBC Breakfast Editor Adam Bullimore said: “I’m really delighted Naga is joining the programme full time. She’s already a familiar face to our viewers and very popular with the team.

“She has bags of journalistic experience and personality and is a fantastic addition to our regular team of presenters.”

Since April, Susanna has fronted ITV’s ‘Good Morning Britain’ however the show’s ratings have been far from fantastic.

Despite the dwindling viewer count, ITV bosses have apparently insisted that they’re delighted with Susanna’s efforts.

While ‘Good Morning Britain’ has failed to impress viewers, BBC Breakfast continues to ride high when it comes to ratings, pulling in an average of 31.5% of TV viewers each day.

Cheryl Cole Marries Jean-Bernard Fernandez-Versini: Why Their 'Whirlwind Romance' Is None Of Our Business

$
0
0
Cheryl Cole announced her marriage to her French boyfriend, Jean-Bernard Fernandez-Versini, this weekend by posting a picture of her wedding ring on Instagram.

But while many rushed to congratulate the star on her recent nuptials - some 83K likes (and counting) - others are shaking heads and raising eyebrows over the couples' apparent 'whirlwind romance'.

*Whispers* After all, they've known each other for just three months.

"First that bum tattoo and now this," they'll say. "She can't be thinking straight."

But since does when such an announcement, where two people declare their love for each other, invite such scathing remarks?

For me there are two root causes for narrow-mindedness.

Firstly, the media coverage.

Not only do headlines point glaringly at the Cheryl and Jean-Bernard's short courtship, but they invariably - and unfairly - drag up Cheryl's relationship history, including her marriage to unfaithful Ashley Cole whom she divorced in 2010.

Admittedly her past relationships are far from irrelevant - but to paste them just inches below the announcement of her wedding is a nasty low blow.

The second cause of the nation's hesitancy over Cheryl's news? Our obsession with the institution of marriage and 'doing things properly'.

The 'normal' or 'traditional' way of going about a relationship is as follows:

Boy meets girl -> boy and girl move in together -> boy proposes -> girl flaps about wedding details for 18 months -> couple tie the knot -> babies are born.

Of course, it isn't so straight-forward. Each stage comes with pressure to move up to the next level.

I have friends who, at 26, have just bought a property together. Before they've even redecorating they've been ambushed with questions: "When are you getting engaged?", "Is she pregnant yet?", "When are you moving out to the suburbs?"

In reality there is no magic formula when it comes to Happily Ever After.

Many who have followed protocol (see above) to the letter have had failed marriages or estranged children - I can name countless examples, as I'm sure you can.

And no amount of snap judgements is going to change that. People just do the best they can with the hand they are dealt, some act on a whim, others plan meticulously - neither are guaranteed to last the distance.

My parents know this too well.

I was six when they got married, my younger brother was two. To this day - yes, in 2014 - people are shocked to hear that we were born "outside of wedlock", as if we're characters in a Brontë novel.

My parents met at school. They were childhood sweethearts and have been together for the best part of 40 years.

They certainly didn't follow protocol when it came to marriage - I was a 'surprise' and they didn't want a shotgun wedding - but I'd challenge anyone to find a happier, more solid couple.

Which brings me back to Cheryl. The only person who can comment on her happiness or readiness for marriage is her.

So let's end with the caption for her announcement, which should shut most people up.

"I usually do not discuss my personal life but to stop the speculation I want to share my happy news. Jean-Bernard and I married on 7/7/14. We are very happy and excited to move forward with our lives together."

Coaching Butterflies...

$
0
0
I get a lot of satisfaction from visiting families who have suffered a loss and talking them through a few of my own observations from the last six years. Doing this makes me feel like I am doing something positive with a negative situation.

For those who are unaware, I have recently enrolled on a fantastic course in Life Coaching at Cambridge University. It seemed like a good way of adding an extra layer on top of the experience I have unfortunately amassed in the bereavement stakes, turning it into a more positive tool with which to help people.

Firstly, I can apply almost all I have learnt on the course to my own personal performance in the roles of presenter, father, friend, boyfriend etc. and it has improved me significantly in all areas. Secondly and more importantly, I feel a complete sense of purpose when I am sitting down with a client listening intently to their words, looking closely at their body language and helping them shift their perspective to a much better place with a flurry of intuitive questions.

Coaching is technical and a lot of thought goes into each question and whilst not every session will feel as though you've made the earth move for your client, I do feel that I have a gift. I feel I can make a huge difference with just an hour of someone's time and I seem to have an ever increasing list of clients who would like to take advantage of my passion for lending my ears and my brain to their particular needs.

Focusing on my needs for a second, my youngest, Freddy, just can't seem to settle at school. He is great for me at home but as soon as he walks through the school gates the devil horns seem to appear. For some time now I have questioned what the source of the issue is and what needs to be adjusted in order to prevail but still, Freddy is a mystery unsolved.

In my training it would make sense to coach people who are likely to represent a challenge I would know a fair amount about, so it sounds a little absurd that I would even dare suggest to a teacher that the best way for me to help her get an improvement from my own nine year old son would be to coach her!

There's certainly no point me saying for the hundredth time that "he behaves really well for me and you seem to be talking about someone else's child at school", because that's not particularly helpful and, whilst I had no idea on a Thursday morning at 8am that what we were about to do was for the best, thanks to the open mindedness (or desperation) of Ms H we were about to find out.

Most sessions do tend to start off with the negatives, I don't mind hearing the harsh truth but I had detached myself from being Dad now anyway. There's always a positive to every child and I'm relieved we seemed to be finding quite a few. How can these be encouraged, what opportunities can you give him to play to his strengths?

The session was proving very constructive and Ms H now had a renewed optimism about what she wanted to achieve and how she would go about getting it. The real magic happened half way through when examining what Freddy may have behind the barrier/persona she accurately perceived that he hides behind. She listed what could be behind there. Grief was an obvious contender so we opened up on his loss and what she knew of it.

I discovered that in the two months she had been at the school she had never discussed his mum with him. She had avoided the topic, which any teacher is entitled to and maybe forgiven for doing. She offered that bringing it up could help so she committed to having a conversation with him that day. Although she had taken a step in the right direction the subject came up sooner than she had expected.

In an R.E lesson the subject conveniently turned to the afterlife, and, without needing any cue, Freddy got up and spoke wonderfully in front of the whole class about Jade and most poignantly about how he sees her as a beautiful butterfly. Heart melting stuff and Ms H took the golden opportunity to elaborate and congratulate Freddy on such a brave show of emotion. Realising she was beneath the barrier, something wonderful happened between teacher and pupil and an understanding was made.

This was confirmed when a Loom-band bracelet appeared anonymously on her desk with a note proclaiming her to be the best teacher in the world. Subsequently Freddy ended that day, and the next, on Gold for his behaviour.

There is much to be said for the satisfaction I gained from knowing my small but timely intervention paid off in full. However the real hero here is the teacher. Without that willingness to try something alternative she wouldn't have changed tactics that day and Freddy wouldn't have achieved such good behaviour for the rest of the week.

To learn something about your nine-year old, especially something as vital as understanding the grieving habits he exhibits, most often at school, is a real breakthrough. Grief must be like a build up of pressure which affects children in lots of ways, evidently with Fred it raises barriers and causes bad behaviour, defiance and a desire to impress his classmates more than is necessary. Ms H allowed him to release that pressure by talking openly about his mum in class and the difference in him was clear, he released the grief and was a different child almost immediately.

Ms H unsurprisingly followed up by allowing Freddy to draw and colour in his butterfly which is now stuck up in class for all to see, a symbol of the new understanding my son and his teacher have found and I think a sign that Freddy has let Mummy out of his pocket so she can float beautifully around an environment he needs her to be recognised in the most.

I say unsurprisingly because Ms H represents the kind of teacher who is a credit to her profession. She wasn't too quick to judge or label, she persevered, she cooperated, she focused on what was good and allowed me to assist her in the best way I could. This small success, temporary as the nature of grief may allow it to be, I hold as pricelessly important and is shared equally with her.

By sheer coincidence, a butterfly landed on my window ledge the very next morning seconds after I had opened my eyes. I think it's lovely to believe in reincarnation. If it brings you comfort then it's right. Fred's face lit up when I told him about my visitor, particularly when I described its colouring; orange and brown just happened to be the colours he had used for his butterfly at school. Priceless.

On Monday morning, Cheryl Cole announced that she’s secretly wed boyfriend Jean-Bernard Fernandez-Versini in an intimate wedding - after just three months of dating.

However, the ‘X Factor’ judge isn’t the only star to put a ring on it after just a few months.

Everyone from Katie Price to Katy Perry and Russell Brand has hotfooted down the aisle, though admittedly, some unions have been more successful than others.

While some of these celeb couples have now split - some more brutally than others - there are plenty of examples which suggest Cheryl and Jean-Bernard could go the distance…

On Turning 27... And My New Video, 'She Rules'!

I celebrated my birthday this year at the Paramour Mansion. A place that is very special, sentimental and significant to me.

I made my record Girl Talk there in March 2012 which was one of the most insane and wonderful, life changing times of my life.

It's funny because I had other plans for my birthday that fell through, so it really feels like it was meant to be.

kate nash

I was very conscious of the fact that I might feel lonely because it's the longest I've been away from my family in one go and birthdays fill me with nostalgia and memories, so I knew I wanted to be with friends.

I'd made plans to stay in this house with a pool and some friends that fell through the day before!

Then I stood in dog poo. I was at a bit of a loss so I thought I would call Dana, the owner of the Paramour Mansion, and it magically worked out that the mansion was free for us to stay in.

kate nash

The Paramour Mansion is the most breathtaking and inspiring building, especially as it is filled with such incredible memories.

There were nine of us, we swam, ate a LOT of cake, drank pink champagne, I got (pretend) married to my friend Zoe, by my friend Mikki who was recently ordained!

Then we danced to Blondie, shared secrets and felt the presence of Daisy, the resident ghost.

kate nash

It was a wild night with special people and it was nice to be reminded of the close friendships I have out here in a new city.

It also reminded me how much I have changed over the past two years and how much has happened! It was the perfect place to be, extremely evocative. It's exciting to be 27!

It feels like a very womanly age, I feel more secure in myself as I get older and I like this number a lot.

I wrote letters to my sisters and the girlfriends back home that I couldn't spend the day with which in turn inspired a song. It's called She Rules.

Tulisa Contostavlos's trial for being concerned with the supply of class A got underway on Tuesday, 15 July, as the jury were sworn in at Southwark Crown Court.

The former N-Dubz star is alleged to have helped arranged the sale of 13.9g of cocaine to an undercover reporter for The Sun on Sunday.

A jury of three women and nine men were today sworn in and it is expected that it will take two weeks for them to hear the case.

Before they were selected the jurors were asked whether they had any connections to The Sun, The Sun On Sunday, The Sunday Times or any UK news enterprise.

Judge Alistair McCreath warned the jury not to discuss the case with anyone, telling them: "As you may have worked out by now, the defendant is somebody in the public eye.”

"She was a professional singer and she had been a judge on the ‘X Factor’,” he said. “She is somebody who is famous. The upshot of that is that if you do mention this case to anybody they are bound to say something about what they think."

The jury were then sent home ready to return at 10am on Thursday, 16 July when prosecutor Tim Cray will open the case.

On Monday, Tulisa’s co-defendant, the rapper Mike GLC Coombs, pleaded guilty to his charge of supplying drugs.

Mike was allowed to leave the court on bail and will be sentenced when Tulisa’s trial is over.

Tulisa attended a preliminary hearing in April, following her arrest in July 2013 and an initial hearing in December 2013.

In December, the singer's lawyer Ben Rose gave a statement, explaining that his client would plead not guilty. According to The Mirror, he said: "Tulisa has been charged with a serious criminal offence to which she will plead not guilty.

"As has been widely reported, this entire case has been manufactured by the Sun on Sunday and Mazher Mahmood, sometimes known as the fake sheikh.

"They spent a large amount of their readers' money in flying Tulisa and a number of her friends first class to Las Vegas."

A spokesman for The Sun has said: "The Sun on Sunday's investigation into Tulisa Contostavlos was entirely justified in the public interest. It was undertaken by Mazher Mahmood, our award-winning journalist.

"Throughout our investigation, our team followed the Press Complaints Commission Code and then handed over our dossier of evidence to the police.

"Following the police investigation, prosecutors have decided that there is a clear case to answer. It is right that this matter should go to court and be decided by a jury."

Ed Sheeran Tweets Cryptic Message After Being Named The Most Important Act In Black And Urban Music

Ed Sheeran appears to have hit back at his detractors on Twitter who claim it’s unfair that he has been named the Most Important Act In Black And Urban Music.

The ‘Don’t’ singer became caught up in something of a social media storm last week, when a poll by BBC Radio 1Xtra - who, on their official website, say they specialise in playing “black music” listed Ed as the Most Important Act on their 'Power List', alongside Sam Smith and Disclosure who also made the top five.

Understandably, people were a little confused by the presence of a pale, ginger 23-year-old bloke from Halifax at the top of the poll, particularly when stars like Dizzee Rascal and Wretch 32 only just made the cut, prompting Wiley - who ranked at number 16 - to voice his frustration on Twitter, claiming that Ed’s place on the list should have been taken by a black artist.

He wrote, in a string of tweets over the weekend:

Days later, Wiley posted more tweets where he insisted he wasn’t playing a “race card”, and compared it to a similar incident involving white rapper Plan B:

Since the controversy, Ed has kept schtum on the matter, although it appeared he had broken his silence with a post on his Twitter page where appeared to allude to the backlash.

In a tweet that suggested that the music should be more important than the person who created it, he said:

Ed’s second album ‘x’ topped the UK album chart when it was released at the tail-end of last month, with its R&B-infused lead single ‘Sing’ - produced by man-of-the-moment Pharrell Williams - also occupying the number one spot on the singles chart.

'Big Brother' 2014 - Week 5 Recap

$

It might have only been 10 days since my eviction from the Big Brother house but somehow it already feels like a lifetime ago I lived in there. Although I've begun working on a much more lengthy and insightful blog post, dishing all dirt of my housemates as well as the ins and outs of the entire process (which I am soon to perfect), I was unable to resist indulging in a more observant and indifferent post that recapped my opinions on the latest evictions, new housemates and recent shenanigans that have endured throughout the last week of Big Brother since my departure from the show.

I definitely enjoyed the battery task, witnessing housemates make emotional decisions over their head in risk of losing out on a luxury shopping budget. Despite the fact that the battery was majorly drained by Danielle's choice of having a precious five minutes with her dog and a rather ridiculous pampering session for Mark, Marlon was the unfortunate one to receive the bitter end of another evil Big Brother twist. Although I clearly understood why Marlon has pressed the button within the spur of the moment, I think he may unfortunately not have been bright enough to think through the repercussions of it fully, not only for his own fate but also for his fellow best friend; Jale who was subsequently evicted on Friday night.

It would be fair to say viewers are highly aware of my feelings towards Helen and of course alliance with young sweet Ashleigh. Having to witness her experience the wrath of Helen, Kim and Jale was very uncomfortable and frustrating to watch when I have to continue seeing decent people mistreated in that house week after week. Later on in the week, what I thought would have been humanly impossible happened; Ashleigh and Helen called a truce in their rivalry. Despite how it looks I don't believe it is authentic in the slightest and neither do I think it will last.

With regards to Markstopher, who expected that? Unfortunately, I don't believe it is genuine. Given the extreme circumstances they are currently situated in, which is the Big Brother house; the environment has caused them to merely act in ways that are not usual to themselves. I did believe that Christopher may have had a little crush on Mark in the beginning; however I was already informed by Mark himself that Christopher just wasn't his type. It is very nice though to witness their friendship blossom; something that hadn't quite happened in my presence.

Of course seeing new housemates take my place is rather awkward, but the dynamics need some new players in the mix. Zoe seems like a lovely girl, but with her constructed looks and past of reality TV shows, I find it hard to remove her from the vacuous fame-hungry box of Big Brother clichés. Lets see if she can grow on me. Bianca is simply everything I loathe in a human being; trashy, obnoxious, foul-mouthed and attention-seeking. With that being said, she is everything I love in a housemate and I can't wait to see her make a complete abomination of herself on TV. Pavadeep I expect will fade into insignificance fairly quickly in that house, mainly because the original housemates are too strong and savvy enough to fall for a false persona.

Have the right people been evicted? Yes. Jale treated me very well one on one but in what this series has turned into as a sick game of chess, the dynamics needed to be balanced and it was vital that Ashleigh remained in the house. Marlon was an easy scape-goat for all housemates this week following the green button casualty. For entertainment purposes, it was time a weaker character left as opposed to someone who provides a more polarising opinion.

My Predictions: I believe Pavadeep will be the short-lived newbie to burn out by Friday due to the fact he will be less impressionable amongst the audience who are voting for who they want to stay. If Bianca does remain in the house, I imagine she won't last longer than a week after becoming a permanent resident. With regards to who I think the new housemates might evict I'm stuck on it. Based on my experience of living in the house for one week, Kimberley and Danielle could be easy targets due to the fact that they require a lot more time and effort to understand and get to know. I also have a feeling Ash could be an option for them, given the fact they could have watched the show and have already taken a disliking towards Helen, or by chance are most likely to over the course of the next few days.
