Helen Mirren Swears On 'Good Morning Britain' As She Tells Kate Garraway And Ben Shephard Of Rainy Camping Trip (VIDEO)

Helen Mirren turned the air blue on Tuesday’s (28 July) ‘Good Morning Britain’, by swearing live on air.

READ MORE:

The actress, who was appearing on the ITV breakfast show as part of her 70th birthday celebrations, let slip the word “p***ed” as she recalled a camping trip she once took with ex-boyfriend Liam Neeson.

Speaking to hosts Kate Garraway and Ben Shephard, Helen said: “He loved camping as well and we had this little deux chevaux car, Liam six foot four in this deux chevaux car, his head was sticking out the top of the car really and we had our tent in the back and all our stuff and our little stove.

“We get down there and we’re camping in this tiny tent, all six foot four of Liam and me and we camp in this field – just literally a field, and it p***ed with rain non stop for like three days."

“You can’t say things like that first thing in the morning,” host Ben interjected.

Clarifying her comments, she added: “It rained a lot,” before asking: “Why can’t you say that?”

“We’ll have that debate another time otherwise we’ll get fired. You might be the Queen but you can’t save us,” Kate told her.

You’d think Helen would have learned her lesson, as she was told off after saying the word “s**t” on ‘BBC Breakfast’ back in 2011.

Tuesday’s interview also saw Kate cause a stream of giggles when she said she couldn’t imagine the Dame “getting down in a tent”.

“That sounds rather rude,” Helen replied saucily.

“I’ve been down in a tent,” she joked.

And that is why we love Helen Mirren.

Calvin Harris has posed for another set of (super hot) Emporio Armani snaps, and quite frankly, we feel like the weekend has arrived early.

The star currently has a DJ residency in Las Vegas, and is busy being loved-up with Taylor Swift, but thankfully, he’s squeezed in the time to whip his kit off and strike a pose.

calvin harris
Wow.

Calvin is sporting nothing but a pair of black pants in two of the snaps, and well… let’s just say he wears them well.

calvin harris
Can't. Stop. Staring.

The shoot was conducted by Lachlan Bailey, and is Calvin’s second as the brand’s model.

They’re not all shirtless pics though (boo!) and in other photos from the campaign, Calvin’s sporting a leather jacket and smoldering in front of the camera.

calvin harris
HOW is it possible to be this beautiful??

The Scottish star recently revealed the secret to his toned bod, stating that it does take a lot of effort to stay in shape.

“On tour but also training for next Armani shoot! Staying in a gym routine while on the road is tricky,” he wrote on Twitter. “But as long as you don't drink, eat well, sleep enough and take one of those mad little ab rollers with u everywhere you'll be good."

When he’s not busy working out, stripping off, or DJing, Calvin can often be found hanging out with his girlfriend Taylor, and since going public with their relationship, the couple have enjoyed a number of dates and PDAs.

Taylor recently gave a shoutout of sorts to Calvin during a ‘1989’ tour concert, telling the crowd in Glasgow: “I happen to love Scottish people, personally.”

Paul Sinha (aka The Sinnerman) has revealed that there's a ceremonial dance, that the show’s Chasers do before each recording.

The quiz show regular, who has appeared on ‘Are You an Egghead?’, ‘Brain of Britain’, ‘Mastermind’, ‘University Challenge’ and ‘The Weakest Link’, told Metro that the team of intimidating quiz boffins like to get down and dirty before they try to stop a team of hopefuls winning a load of cash.

“The New Zealand rugby union team have their haka. We have our own war dance,” Paul said.

“Naturally I choreographed it, and it is ‘West Side Story’ meets ‘University Challenge’.

“At the beginning of every day’s recording, we perform it with gusto. It is the most joyous 28 minutes of the working day.”

‘The Chase’ has become one of ITV’s biggest daytime shows since it started in 2009, regularly attracting viewers of nearly four million each day.

One of the show’s other Chasers, Anne Hegerty (aka The Governess), recently raised an eyebrow when she was filmed swearing in between takes during filming.

It is the end of an era for ‘The X Factor’, as the show’s infamous voiceover man has announced he has left the show.

MORE 'X FACTOR':

Peter Dickson revealed on his Twitter page that he won’t be part of the forthcoming series of the ITV talent contest.

“After the best 11 years with the X Factor, it's time for me to check out and cut loose,” he wrote.

The voice artist has had his role on the show reduced in recent years, only featuring during the live shows.

Peter became iconic during his ‘X Factor’ stint for booming out the contestants names at the start of their performances, the most famous of which is undoubtedly his “RAAAACHEEEEL ADEDEEEJIIII!”

His exit comes after a number of changes to the show, including replacing host Dermot O’Leary with Caroline Flack and Olly Murs, and axing judges Louis Walsh and Mel B in favour of Rita Ora and Nick Grimshaw.

‘The X Factor’ returns to ITV later this year.

Colin Randall: The Bittersweet Memories Of Denise Epstein, Her Mother Irène Némirovsky And The Stunning 'Suite Francaise'

$

'Suite Francaise' is the thrilling and dramatic story set in WWII, a drama set against the terrifying chaos of German occupied France.

The film, now available on Blu-Ray and DVD, follows the book in setting one family's fortunes as Hitler’s armies take control of Paris and bring total occupation to France, Lucile (Michelle Williams) awaits news from her husband who is being held a prisoner of war.

Living with her mother-in-law (Kristin Scott Thomas) and leading a stifled existence, in a town struggling to cope with their terrifying German rulers, Lucile’s life is turned upside down when a handsome and charming German officer (Matthias Schoenaerts) is posted to live with them.

Despite their hopeless situation, they find themselves drawn to each other until the desperate realities of war threaten to destroy them.

suite francaise

The film is based on the extremely moving book of the same name, written by Irène Némirovsky. Irène was killed in Auschwitz back in 1942; years later in the 1990s her daughter Denise Epstein discovered some of her manuscripts hidden in a suitcase, which were later published in 2004 as the novel we’ve come to know and love today.

Denise was interviewed by journalist Colin Randall in 2004. We now have the full text of that interview, which we're pleased to publish below...

More than 60 years on from the Fall of Paris, the France of 2004 was unrecognisable from the country that had spent much of the post-war period in self-denial of its role in the Holocaust.

From writers and academics to political leaders – perhaps excluding fascism’s sneaking regarders on the far right – there was candid acknowledgement of acquiescence in Nazi barbarism. A long-concealed gem of wartime literature, Irène Némirovsky’s novel 'Suite Française', written in the months before she died in Auschwitz, was the talk of French publishing.

And I was on my way across Paris to meet her daughter Denise Epstein, a warm and still, then, sprightly woman in her mid-70s.

suite francaise

It was a brief encounter, requiring one of those breathless climbs of staircases in old Parisian buildings without lifts, and we would never meet again; Denise died nine years later.

But she was a striking interviewee, telling me a great deal more than my then employers at The Daily Telegraph in London were prepared to publish. Memories of the hour or two we spent together streamed back when I joined eight other souls in a French cinema earlier this year to watch Saul Dibb’s film based on the book.

The movie has now been released on DVD and, while its central love plot (French soldier's wife falls for German officer billeted in her home) can be criticised as sanitised, lightweight and predictable, it neatly depicts the torments of those who neither collaborated nor resisted but just did what was needed to get through the war.

When we spoke, Denise vividly recalled the first time she had started to read her mother’s book, in the mid-1950s. “It made me angry to read it,” she said. “Seeing my mother's wonderful lucidity just gave me a tremendous sensation of abandonment."

suite francaise

She had more reason than anyone to be moved by the experience. But it has had a similar effect on others. Decades later, the English author Rosemary Bailey, who has also written of the effects of the Nazi occupation on both ordinary and extraordinary people ('Love and War in the Pyrenees'), told me 'Suite Française' was the first novel she had chosen to peruse in French. “I was I tears as I read it,” she said.

The wretched period of French history that began with Nazi invasion and capitulation of the French government, leading to the deportation of 75,000 Jews of whom no more than about 2,000 survived, has yielded a wealth of films, for big screen and small, books and documentaries. A long-running series, Un Village Français, gets a peak-time viewing slot.

As if to compensate for the embarrassed silence of the past, it sometimes seems no week can go by without television screening documentaries or films about the period, with no holds barred.

Epstein was orphaned, along with her younger sister, Élisabeth, when, first their mother, and then their father, were carted off to the Nazi death camp.

Némirovsky was Jewish, the daughter of an émigré Ukrainian banker who had fled with his family at the start of the Russian revolution of 1917.

suite francaise

Her first novel, 'David Golder', published in 1929, was a major success and she became the darling of Parisian literary society in the 1930s. Gathering anti-Semitism proved a block to French citizenship; an application was rejected in the year before war broke out. Némirovsky even tried converting her family to Catholicism; neither that, nor the critical and social respect she commanded, could save her.

And when she was finally detained in the Burgundy village of Issey-l'Evêque, where her family had taken refuge, her captors were not even German soldiers obeying orders but French gendarmes content to do the Nazis’ dirty work for them. Within weeks of her arrival at Auschwitz in Jul 1942, Némirovsky, was dead; her husband, deported four months later, died there, too.

“I did not end up hating the Germans, at least ordinary German soldiers,” Denise told me. “They were doing what they were told was their duty. But I can never forgive the gendarmes, the French forces who were only too happy to round people up for deportation and also those, officials and others, who knew what was happening and did nothing.”

One gendarme involved in the arrest of Denise’s father did offer a glimpse of humanity. He told the young sisters, then aged 13 and five, to snatch what possessions they could, get away and hide; the gesture probably saved their lives. And Denise’s decision to grab an old suitcase saved her mother’s unpublished writing for posterity.

'Suite Française', the first parts of what was intended as a sequence of five novels, was necessarily an unfinished work. And the manuscripts had been stuffed into that suitcase salvaged by Denise as she made her escape.

Némirovsky had typed the first of two completed books in the series(Tempête). The second (Dolce) had been written in tiny script as paper became scarce. The suitcase containing the drafts remained unopened survived the war as the author’s daughters were hidden in convent, cellar and loft by a Catholic woman who had befriended their mother and to whom they turned when the gendarme urged them to disappear.

suite francaise

It was several years before Denise could bear to look inside. She felt that to do so would someone violate her mother’s memory and privacy. Despite that early start at reading the manuscripts in 1954, it was not until the 1970s, after the work narrowly escaped being destroyed when her home was flooded, that she read them “properly”.

She and her sister then began the process that would lead to publication, donating the manuscripts to a literary archive. When the novel finally appeared, it won critical acclaim, became a bestseller and attracted the first Prix Renaudot, an award complementary to France’s Prix Goncourt, to be given posthumously.

'Suite Française' - the book as well as the filmed adaptation - has its critics.

One friend, a distinguished academic with specialist knowledge of France under occupation, told me flatly he did not regard Némirovsky as a particularly good novelist. He did concede, however, that 'Suite Française' could be seen as a remarkable achievement, describing events as she lived with no ending, and no opportunity for retrospective analysis, when it left her hands.

Before the film's credits roll, a note states that Némirovsky was "killed" at Auschwitz. This implies that she, like her husband, was gassed - a mistake frequently made when her name is mentioned.

In fact, as has been noted by Jon Weiss, an American professor of French and a Némirovsky biographer, she was among more than 200 inmates who died from an outbreak of typhus. Come to think of it, though, the filmmakers should not be faulted: Irène Némirovsky was, indeed, killed at Auschwitz. And Denise was right when she described what, to her, was perhaps the most valuable aspect of 'Suite Française' - that if only to a certain extent, it brought her mother back to life.

Written by: Colin Randall - a former Paris Correspondent and Chief Reporter for The Daily Telegraph. He worked at the paper for 29 years. He writes on France, current affairs and media at www.francesalut.com.

'Suite Francaise' is available now on DVD and Blu-Ray. Watch the trailer below...

Adult film star Brooklyn Blue has been axed from ‘The X Factor’, after her porn past was rumbled by a security guard working on the show.

MORE 'X FACTOR':

Becky Constantinou - who is better known by her stage name - had made it through three rounds of auditions, but won’t be going any further in the competition as producers have pulled her from the ITV show.

She told The Sun she was axed after a security guard working at Wembley Arena recognised her.

"The guard came up to me with a knowing smile and said, 'I know you from somewhere, you're that Brooklyn girl'," she said.

"A few days later I got a call from the show makers asking if I'd done any modelling and my stage names. It was clear I'd been grassed up, but I did my best to dodge the questions."

The 24-year-old, who previously dated ex-’TOWIE’ star Kirk Norcross, later decided to come clean about her X-rated past, but was still axed.

"I know ‘X Factor’ is a family show, but porn shouldn't define who I am. I was never going to put on a sex show for Simon," she said.

An ‘X Factor’ source later confirmed to Digital Spy that Becky had been shortlisted to sing in front of judges Simon Cowell, Cheryl Fernandez-Versini, Rita Ora and Nick Grimshaw, but was not put through after “background checks”.

‘The X Factor’ returns to ITV later this year.

The Return Of Jill Scott - Empowered, Enlightened Woman!

JILL SCOTT ''Woman'' album review.

woman
Jill Scott's 5th studio album is an empowering ode to women titled WOMAN.
Artwork, courtesy Atlantic Records.

This week see's the release of Grammy award-winner Jill Scott's 5th studio album Woman, and luckily, I was given a sneak peek listening link weeks ahead of release, and am relieved to announce; she's back with a vengeance!

I was such a devotee of her first album Who Is Jill Scott, which was filled with classic R&B anthems, that I even named my iPod after her!

However, like many artists on their sophomore album, she decided to go from being my best female audio friend, to all-experimental on us.

On her second outing Beautifully Human, there was a lil too much shrieky cray cray for moi. After that I lost sight of her next two releases, until last month when her new record label sent me her new music.

My perfect Jill Scott has always been heavenly sounds that I can rely on for dinner parties, relaxed drives and romance. Approaching the 15-year anniversary of her first studio album, Who Is Jill Scott? Words and Sounds Vol. 1, I am really happy to hear her latest release is that beautiful, melodic, silky bird-like voice back to its finest with catchy, memorable hooks.
Like her debut outing, this too has hooks that fans will learn and sing with slick, eyebrow raising attitude, reflective and shrewd. All the production is head-bouncing, high-level, audio gold.

Woman kicks off with the call out to us all to be awakened and listen to WILD COOKIE.

PREPARED is a sexy reminiscent ode to a new awakening. A beautiful rich anthem for ladies looking for that soul mate its chorus has you chanting along cult like. Like artists like Lauryn Hill, Erykah Badu and India Irie, Jill has always made the ladies feel empowered, and men are always judged as 'those who understand these ladies will always choose strong, intelligent women for partners'. BTW CRUSIIN is my joint on this album, just easy, laid back vibes that spoke to my heart. No explanation necessary, just listen.

RUN RUN RUN is a faster paced Motown meets the sixties vibe. A juxtaposition of all the fun you had to Beyonce's Work it out meets Outkast's Ms Jackson.

You'll want to two-step with your other half to CAN'T WAIT, which is a lovers rock style lullaby.

Describing Woman as "classic Philly soul meets country rhythm served with captivating storytelling," Jill executively produced the album in collaboration with long-time creative colleague Andre Harris (behind her hits 'A Long Walk' and 'The Way') and songwriter/producer Aaron Pearce. That's probably why the start of track LIGHTHOUSE; begins with a couple of bars that pay ode to her classic anthem A LONG WALK...

The albums lead single is titled FOOLS GOLD, and with no pretence or hiding, likens a sour relationship and an unworthy lover to Fools Gold. Audiences will already be familiar with this by the time the album is released on July 24th.

There are two ''interludes'' on this album starting with the WILLING INTERLUDE and then later PAUSE INTERLUDE (which sounds very Laura Mvula) . I'm not a fan of ''interludes'. If you got something to say, say it in a full thought out song. An interlude is like social media subliminal tweets. Say it in full or don't say it at all. #JusSayin

CLOSURE as you can imagine is an upfront, in your face, angry, I'm kicking you to the kerb' flick of the hand, laudation to a dumped, cheating lover.

Jill really shows off her pipes in a big ballad vocal vehicle on YOU DON'T KNOW, a slow, country gospel meets R&B soul vintage big number.

SAY THANK YOU reminds me of a disturbing Pulp Fiction film soundtrack song. A Wild West female gun-slinging boss! (Pronounce it ''baus'' tho).

BACK TOGETHER takes Jill back to church where a sermon is being lead to take us on a high rolling journey of rebuilding and recovering.

COMING TO YOU a high impact feel good, belly-wrenching vocals from the gut, evocative of the Shaft era.

Jill says stuff like this '' I've done a lot of fighting in my time, and I'm down to do some more. I don't want to, but you know, there's just certain things that you can't sit down and take''. And this; '' When I got my success, I became decadent for a while. This was 2003 to 2008. I fell for tiramisu really hard. I've become more moderate since, because African-Americans are prone to diabetes''. Love her for that.

Jahraymecofasola just needs to be enjoyed as if on an out of body space traveling experience.

Jill Scott's music is like a soundtrack to our lives, good love, bad love, lost love, love regrets and everything in between. In explaining the formula for her prolific writing and ability to serve as the voice of many women, Jill says,

"I put myself in each woman's place...and found that it became more about me, all of it, with the envy, the anger, the frustration, the loneliness, the joy, the passion and the rapture''.

BEAUTIFUL LOVE, a duet with BJ The Chicago Kid, is what it says on the tin, a track to make love to.

Jill is currently just underway in her solo headline tour taking in 25 American cities. This new album is the follow-up to her 201 The Light of the Sun, which debuted at No. 1 on the Top Billboard 200.

This woman is wholesomely human, a contradiction, wise and foolish, canny and cloudy, reflective and cunning.
Welcome back Ms Scott.

Film Reviews: The Legend of Barney Thomson - Eden

Robert Carlyle's directorial debut, The Legend of Barney Thomson is a raw Glaswegian comedic twist on Sweeney Todd that's a black humour drenched delight - Eden, Mia Hansen Love's drama is a perceptive, intelligent and dynamic tale that chronicles one man's love of Garage music and his dream of becoming a DJ in Paris in the 90s.

Adapted from Douglas Lindsay's novel 'Long Midnight of Barney Thomson', Robert Carlyle's directorial debut is a raw comedic Glaswegian twist on Sweeney Todd.

Glaswegian barber Barney Thomson's destined to always be at the back of the queue. You don't ask Barney for a trim - he's not up for chit chat and smiles and his chair's moved from the prime front of shop position and is on its way to the back door and dole queue. That can't be right, not after all the years Barney's put in.

Barney didn't mean to kill the boss, he just wanted to talk things over. Accidents happen. What does a boy when he's got a body in the boot of his car ? Turn to his chain smoking, foul mouthed, bingo obsessed lover of leopard print clothes, mother Cemolina played with mad abandon by Emma Thompson.

Glasgow's the posting from hell for Cockney Detective Inspector Holdall (Ray Winston) who hates the very soil it's built on but he's convinced Barney's the serial killer who posts body parts to victim's relatives from Scotland's finest tourist spots. Add on Detective Inspector June Robertson (Ashley Jenson) who wants the case and Chief Superintendent McManaman (Tom Courtney) who's baffled by it and you've got Glasgow at it's best.

Emma Thomson's terrific, Ray Winston's cockney comedic hard done by pitch works perfectly and Tom Courtney's at home as Glasgow's bitter police chief. It sags slightly half way through but there's a punchy script, Fabian Wagner's cinematography's spot on and Glasgow shines.

Brilliantly observed, accomplished, warm and dynamic, Eden casts a seductive fictional eye over the French clubbing scene in the 90s that spans two decades and chronicles the rise and fall of one of the DJs who pioneered the French electro music scene in the 90s.

Life can be chasing a dream and with Paul Vallee's (Felix de Givry) passion for Garage music, it's life as a DJ. Mia Hansen-Love and her brother Sven who co-wrote the script and was one of the pioneering DJs of the French 90s rave scene has a great eye for detail and captures the buzz, energy and passion of the dance floor.

With his close knit group of friends ever present - his lover Louise (Pauline Etienne), artist Cyril (Roman Kolinka), and Arnaud (Vincent Macaigne), Paul forms Cheers, a DJ duo and dreams of putting his French Touch on the world dance scene. The screen's filled with a twenty year journey, lives change, dreams pass, dreams are broken. The acting's naturalistic as Denis Lenoir's camera peers into a unique rhythm-filled world, Paul's atmosphere of 'euphoria and melancholia,' Clubbers, the tight knit group of friends living the dream, cameos from real-life house names, Paul's mother (Arsinee Khanjian), tapped for cash ever anxious for her son to leave the dream, fantasy and reality mixing with a seductive rhythm, tobacco and coke. It's seductive. It's living at night but how do you keep the dream?

Seductive terrific cinema.

Mary Wilson Of The Supremes And Her Fight To Protect Artists Having Their Names Stolen - 'It's Just Theft, Like Any Burglary'

Did you know that if you’re in the audience of a band with a famous name, and there’s not one member in the group who recorded the original music, you’re allowed to ask for your money back?

Mary Wilson of the Supremes has been a big part of the fight against identity theft in the States, and she’s rightly proud that this has now been made a criminal offence in 30 states.

“We’re fighting against the formation of groups who use other people’s names,” she explains. “They perform under the name of the originals, and that’s simply identity theft.

mary wilson
Mary Wilson is going all out to battle for musicians who've suffered identity theft

‘’I’ve done shows where people have come up to me with things with my autograph apparently on it, and I’ve no idea where it came from.

“If somebody steals your identity and charges items against your intellectual property, then that’s theft, as simple as any burglary,” she emphasises.

Mary adds that she’s had to become savvy during her long years in the business, since her first days at Motown as a founding member of the Supremes, alongside Diana Ross and Florence Ballard.

“We were very young, we were doing lots of things that we weren’t being compensated for,” she remembers. “We had to get wise, learn about filing copyright and other things. You just don’t know that stuff when you’re young.

“The newer artists are much more aware, more equipped to take care of their lives and livelihoods, I’m proud of the younger artists.”

the supremes
The Supremes scored a massive 12 number ones in total, including five consecutive chart-toppers in a row

Mary will be performing in the UK in October alongside Dionne Warwick and Roberta Flack, as part of the Legends Live tour. She promises of their concerts, “I’ll definitely be doing most of our number one hits. We won’t be singing together, just each of us singing the favourites… although we may do a finale. They’re speaking of that now!”

Talking of favourites, Mary will have a lot to choose from. The Supremes had 12 number one records in total, including five in a row, including their very first one 'Where Did Our Love Go' and the everlasting 'Baby Love'. What does she put their unique success down to? She laughs…

“People are famous for a lot of different reasons. Everyone has a claim to be the first of something, all for different things.

“I guess the Supremes were on TV a lot, we were very glamorous. But it was also a special time in history, not just in the US, there was the civil rights moment, great changes in society, so when people look back on that time, they just remember us as well, which is obviously very nice.”

Mary Wilson will be appearing on the Legends Live Tour alongside Roberta Flack, Dionne Warwick and The Drifters, kicking off at London's Wembley Arena on 3 October, before visiting Birmingham and Manchester. Click here for info.

Hugh Jackman has teased his last appearance as Wolverine, revealing a new image to promote his final appearance in the 'X-Men' film franchise.

The actor posted a promo picture of himself in character on his Twitter page, which sees the mutant giving the claw, alongside the hashtag #OneLastTime.

Hugh also called on fans to tell him what they would like to see in the final instalment of the ‘X-Men’ spin-off series.

“My last time putting on the claws. What do you want to see happen? 50 words or less. I'll read as many as I can,” he wrote.

He was pretty impressed with the responses, posting this video after reading some of them:

Hugh first appeared as Wolverine in 2000’s ‘X-Men’ and its three sequels, and landed his first solo spin-off film as the character in 2009 in ‘X-Men Origins: Wolverine’.

‘The Wolverine’ was then released in 2013, and the yet untitled sequel is slated for release in March 2017.

Hugh previously described it as “the perfect way to go out”, telling ‘The Dr Oz Show’ back in May: “This will be my last one… It is my last time. It just felt like it was the right time to do it,” he said on

“And let’s be honest, 17 years. I never thought in a million years it would last, so I’m so grateful to the fans for the opportunity of playing it.”

'Spectre' Theme Song: Ellie Goulding Fuels Speculation Over New James Bond Soundtrack

Ellie Goulding has fuelled speculation that she’s recording the ‘Spectre’ theme song, with a new Instagram post.

The ‘Love Me Like You Do’ singer has shared a snap of herself coming out of London’s Abbey Road studios, alongside the caption: “That's a wrap!”

The studios have played host to plenty of music’s biggest stars, but fans have noted that it’s also where Adele recorded the Oscar-winning ‘Skyfall’.

Earlier this month, Sam Mendes, who is directing the new James Bond film, revealed that the new movie’s soundtrack had already been penned.

“I can say that the song's been recorded and it's fantastic and I'm very excited about it,” he told BBC news earlier this month, adding: “You won't have to wait long.”

Bookies Betfair are certain that Ellie’s nabbed the job, so much so that they’ve even suspended betting.

“Ellie Goulding had been friendless at 25/1 but accompanying the rumours in the past week that ‘Spectre’ theme tune has already been recorded has been an overwhelming number of bets coming through for the English singer songwriter, forcing us to suspend betting,” a trader from Betfair told The Mirror.

“Sam Smith and Adele were the well backed favourites in this market, accounting for over 80% of bets.”

The first full ‘Spectre’ trailer was revealed earlier this month, watch it below…

'The Man Called Monkhouse': Star Simon Cartwright Remembers How Bob Monkhouse Always Promised Him A Gig

Before his death, Bob Monkhouse said of Simon Cartwright, “You do me better than I do.”

Now Bob’s favourite impressionist and most ardent fan will star at Edinburgh Festival in the role he was born to play, that of ‘The Man Called Monkhouse’.

In July 1995, Bob Monkhouse sat in his study and realised that his books had been stolen. These weren’t just any books, but a collection of all his favourite and finest jokes, amassed over forty years of writing for Bob Hope, appearing in film and at the Palladium, compering quiz shows from ‘The Golden Shot’ to ‘Family Fortunes’, and dividing fans with his deliberately smooth, showbusiness veneer.

The books were later returned, but it was a professional disaster and a personal moment of intense reflection for one of the nation’s most hardworking but complex comedians.

Bob Monkhouse survived a dip in his career to become one of the nation's most beloved comedians

Now, this episode in Monkhouse’s life serves as the framework for a play at this year’s Edinburgh Festival, going back to his years of TV superstardom, the challenges that came with ‘new wave’ comedy and finally recognition for his unique talents. In the title role is Simon Cartwright, an impressionist who first came to know Bob when he auditioned for 'Opportunity Knocks' and found the man himself sitting in front of him…

“In those days I had a traditional act of impressions and guitar music, but I had a punt at doing a Bob impression, and I was deeply shocked that he was there,” Simon tells HuffPostUK. “When I finished, I humbly packed away and Bob was laughing the loudest. He charged out onto the pavement and grabbed me, stuck a card in my hand and said, ‘I want to help you with this.’”

bob monkhouse
Simon Cartwright is both the impersonator of Bob, and a longtime friend

This gesture heralded nearly two decades of friendship between the two, ended only by Bob’s death in 2003. Bizarrely, just before Bob died, he’d written to Simon, promising him to help with any work opportunities he could. The first job offer Simon received after he’d lost his friend was the chance to impersonate him in an award-winning ad. As Simon puts it, “he was as good as his word, and got me a gig.”

For Simon, the play is an opportunity to pay homage to a talent he believes was unique in the last fifty years of showbiz. While Bob’s professional peaks and troughs were accompanied by family tragedy with the deaths of two of his sons, Simon is insistent that this story WON’T be “the tears of a clown. It’s not another tragi-comic tale”.

“We explore his screen persona, at the cosmetics and the structure he used to design it. He didn’t have funny bones like Tommy Cooper, and he knew it. He told me, ‘I relied on words and delivery.’

“Actually, he was a very funny man, incredibly sophisticated, but he struggled to be accepted by his contemporaries. He made a conscious decision to be like Bob Hope, and I think he clung on to that for too long, and it kept people out. It was cool to look disheveled and Bob couldn’t do that, he was too urbane.”

Simon cites Bob’s memoir, the hilarious and moving ‘Crying With Laughter’ as the moment when audiences got to know and appreciate the depth of the man they’d had on their TV screens for 50 years.

“He said, ‘That was the day I turned honest,’” remembers Simon. “He let people in, he started being self-deprecating, let himself be the target of his own jokes about growing old, and he was happy to be.

“I think he started to get the recognition he deserved in his final years, but now he’s getting even more appreciation and understanding as a dead man. It’s sad in a way, but thankfully we have the records and the programmes, so we can continue to enjoy his talents.”

Simon Cartwright appears as Bob Monkhouse in 'A Man Called Monkhouse' at this year's Edinburgh Festival, Assembly Hall - Rainy Hall, from 6 to 31 August. Click here for info.

Calvin Harris Shares Amazing Throwback Instagram Pic... And He's Certainly Blossomed

Calvin Harris might look like a male model these days thanks to a booze-free, gym-heavy, clean-living lifestyle, but that wasn’t always the case for the superstar DJ.

And here’s the pic to prove it…

TAXI!

Calvin (that’s him on the left, by the way), shared this throwback snap of him looking, well, rather refreshed, on a night out with a pal from back in the day.

Despite giving up the sauce, Calvin obviously still has fond memories of his drinking days, captioning the pic: “ME AND IRV IN JUMPIN JAKS DUMFRIES 2002 LOOKING FUCKING FANTASTIC #SCOTLAND#LIFE #IRV #LEGEND.”

These days of course, you’re more likely to see Calvin showing off his washboard abs and posing in his pants than holding a double voddie and coke.

The Scottish star, who is dating Taylor Swift, was recently unveiled as the face of Armani, which means he’s had to strip off to help flog the fashion brand’s underwear.

Just... Wow.

And being the generous soul that he quite evidently is, Calvin shared the secret to his toned bod with fans on Twitter.

“On tour but also training for next Armani shoot! Staying in a gym routine while on the road is tricky,” he tweeted. “But as long as you don't drink, eat well, sleep enough and take one of those mad little ab rollers with u everywhere you'll be good."

Oh that's alright then.

Calvin's not the only star who has undergone an impressive transformation...

Cheryl Fernandez-Versini really means business at the ‘X Factor’ Bootcamp this year, and we’d be feeling pretty nervous right now if we were one of the contestants.

MORE 'X FACTOR':

The judge has shown how serious she is with a military-inspired outfit as filming got underway on Tuesday (28 July).

Cheryl was sporting a sleeveless khaki dress-jacket with thigh-high peep-toe boots in a snap she posted on Instagram.

She was also showing off her new hair ‘do, having ditched her recent bob in favour of some layered extensions.

The former Girls Aloud singer also shared a behind-the-scenes snap of filming for Bootcamp, which has moved back to the setting of a country mansion from the arena, where it has been held for the last few years.

The Six Chair Challenge will return later on, however, with filming taking place at Wembley in September.

Meanwhile, it’s also been reported that Cheryl is hoping to enlist the help of former judge Dannii Minogue at this year’s Judges Houses.

A source told Metro: “The biggest news this year is the return of Dannii Minogue – she has been requested by Cheryl.

“Dannii is doing her judges’ houses for the Australian version of the show in the UK this year and as Cheryl is doing hers in France, it’s quite an easy distance for Dannii to travel.”

Justin Bieber has shown his nice side, taking part in an emotional TV segment and surprising one of his biggest fans.

The new US show ‘Knock, Knock: Live’ sees megastars dishing out cash windfalls to members of the public who’ve been dealing with tough times, and in the latest episode, the Biebs surprised 15-year-old Ashley, who recently survived meningitis.

Ashley missed her quinceañera, a huge party that celebrates a 15th birthday, because of the life-threatening illness, and it was Justin’s job to put things right.

Story continues below the video...

“She's a really big fan of mine,” he said before paying her a visit. “She missed a lot of important events in her life, I just wanted to bless her.”

He then rocked up to her house unannounced, presenting a £10,000 cheque - financed by one of the show’s sponsors - and revealing to Ashley that he had planned a belated quinceañera for her.

Earlier this month, David Beckham put in a star turn on the show, delighting a cash-strapped family.

Other stars to have taken part in the emotional show include rapper Common.

Charlize Theron Forced To Reunite With Ex-Fiancé Sean Penn To Reshoot Scenes For Their Movie ‘The Last Face'

Let’s face it, the last person you want to see, let alone hang out with, after a break-up is your ex - but Charlize Theron and her former fiancé Sean Penn were forced to do just that earlier this week.

Charlize called off her engagement to the 54-year-old actor last month after 18 months together, but the pair had to put their personal stuff to one side when they were reunited to reshoot scenes for their forthcoming film ‘The Last Face’.

Ooooh, awkward.

Sean is directing the film, which follows the head of an international aid agency, played by Charlize, who meets a relief aid worker (Javier Bardem) amidst a political and social revolution in Africa.

Both Sean and Charlize have been spotted on set in South Africa over the last few days, but for their sake, we hope the re-shoots aren’t going to take too long.

Sean, who has been married twice before, spoke to Esquire in March about the prospect of getting hitched to Charlize, telling the men’s mag: “You say I've been married twice before, but I’ve been married under circumstances where I was less informed than I am today.

“So I wouldn't even consider it a third marriage, I’d consider it a first marriage on its own terms if I got married again.

“I mean, I like the tradition. A friend of mine wrote a line, ‘Without tradition, new things die.’ And I don’t want new things to die.”

Gulp.

The pair have offered fans a first look at their shoot for fashion and culture magazine Rollercoaster on Instagram, and they are both looking pretty damn smoking.

The snap sees ‘Love Me Like You Do’ singer Ellie in a short black PVC dress, while McBusted guitarist Dougie bares his perfectly toned torso by going topless as he draped his arm around his better half.

Sharing it on Instagram, Ellie wrote: “Coming soon @rollacoastermagazine.”

The photoshoot marks a big step for the couple, who were notoriously cagey about their romance when they first started dating in early 2014.

They refused to even address rumours they were together, before finally going public last May.

Since then, Dougie has hinted wedding bells could soon be ringing, hinting to MailOnline that a proposal could be on the cards.

“Well…I don’t want to say too much. It would ruin the surprise,” he said back in June.

Meanwhile, Ellie has dropped the biggest hint yet that she will be singing the latest James Bond theme for ‘Spectre’.

The singer has shared a snap of herself coming out of London’s Abbey Road studios, alongside the caption: “That's a wrap!”

The studios have played host to plenty of music’s biggest stars, but fans have noted that it’s also where Adele recorded the Oscar-winning ‘Skyfall’.

Bookies have since suspended betting on who will sing the new Bond song.

Joanna Lumley has delighted ‘Absolutely Fabulous’ fans with a very important update on the film version of the BBC sitcom.

The actress, who plays the inimitable Patsy Stone, has confirmed that filming will start on the big-screen adaptation on 12 October.

Joanna revealed the exciting development to Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford during an interview on ‘This Morning’.

Get that bolly on ice... Eddie and Patsy are back!

The script has been penned by Joanna’s co-star Jennifer Saunders, who plays Patsy’s BFF Eddie Monsoon.

Speaking of it, Joanna said: "It’d be wrong for me to say that I’ve completely read it because I think it’s been changing, but we are starting filming it on October 12th."

YAAAASSSS

She also revealed that Julia Sawalha (Saffy), Jane Horrocks (Bubble) and June Whitfield (Mrs Monsoon) will all reprise their roles in the film.

“We are all there, the same old gang. Lots of people you will have seen in it before.

"I think we are going down to the south of France to do some of the shooting there… It’ll all be shot on location. It is going to be ravishingly funny! Very gorgeous… and [in a Patsy voice] completely fabulous!”

On bringing back the beehive hairstyle to play Patsy again, Joanna added: “I usually use my own hair, and that’s usually for one show a week in front of an audience, but when you’re shooting for seven or eight weeks everyday, I think I’ll give it a bit of a break.”

‘Ab Fab’ first hit TV screens in 1992, and since then, 40 episodes of the show have been made.

Most recently three 20th anniversary episodes aired in 2011/12, one of which celebrated the London Olympic Games.

Over the years, there were plenty of celebrity cameos from the likes of Elton John, Kate Moss and Emma Bunton.
