Kirsty Gallacher and Lucy Mecklenburgh are just two of the names who have bared all for Women’s Health, as part of their September naked issue.

For the second year running, the magazine has asked eight inspiring women who are proud of their bodies, not just for their beauty, but their strength, power and imperfections, to pose nude on the pages of the mag.

Sky Sports presenter Kirsty and former ‘TOWIE’ star Lucy can be seen posing totally naked, as they open up to readers about body confidence.

Kirsty said: “If I was going to rate my body confidence out of 10, I’d say seven.

“This time last year, it would’ve been much lower, but after a divorce and juggling full-time work with two kids, I made the decision to start channeling my energy into positive things, and that includes getting into shape.”

Lucy adds that she changed her lifestyle after quitting the ITVBe reality series, and has now set up her own fitness website.

“‘TOWIE’ didn’t just bring me fame, it made be bigger than I’d ever been before,” she explained.

“I was drinking every night, living off pasta – I’d never worried about exercise or ‘no carbs before Marbs’, but suddenly I couldn’t fit into my jeans.

“So two years ago I started working with a PT Celia Harris. I slimmed down quickly and I’d wake up happier, more motivated – I wanted to get to the gym to push my body.”

Other stars who celebrate their bodies in the feature include Sports Illustrated cover star Chrissy Teigen, personal trainer and daughter of Richard and Judy, Chloe Madeley, Olympic silver medalist Samantha Murray, European Champion swimmer Fran Halsall and Olympic hammer thrower Sophie Hitchon.

Julianne Moore And Ellen Page Star As Passionate Couple In First 'Freeheld' Trailer - Another Oscar For Julianne?

$

Come Awards Season, and Julianne Moore might just be adding another golden statuette to her mantelpiece with her performance in 'Freeheld', bringing to screen the real-life story of Laurel Hester and her partner Stacie Andree.

Julianne stars as Laurel Hester, a decorated New Jersey police detective who was diagnosed with cancer and wanted to leave her pension to her domestic partner, Stacie (played by Ellen Page).

Hester lived with and jointly owned a house with her registered domestic partner, Stacie Andree, who would not be able to afford mortgage payments upon Hester's death. A married heterosexual with Hester's years of police service would be able to pass on pension benefits to a spouse, but this privilege was not accorded to same-sex domestic partners in Ocean County.

Hester appealed to local authorities to change this policy, and was supported by the local Policemen's Benefit Association. Instead, in a private meeting on 9 November 2005, the five Republican county freeholders voted against the proposal, with freeholder John P. Kelly arguing that it threatened "the sanctity of marriage".

In the film, when county officials, called Freeholders, conspired to prevent Laurel from doing this, detective Dane Wells (Michael Shannon) and activist Steven Goldstein (Steve Carell) team up to fight for Laurel and Stacie's case, rallying police officers and ordinary citizens to support their struggle for equality.

In real life, on 23 November, a rally of between 100 and 200 supporters gathered to protest the county's inaction.

Julianne Moore owned Awards Season 2015, winning an Oscar, Golden Globe and a clutch of gongs for her portrayal of an Alzheimer's patient in 'Still Alice'.

Ellen Page scooped admiration around the world with her coming-out speech back in February 2014, which she gave as part of Human Rights Campaign's 'Time To Thrive' conference.

Love Island’ contestant Hannah Elizabeth has hit out at the show’s presenter Caroline Flack, for being “too critical” of her having sex on the reality series.

READ MORE:

The Liverpudlian glamour model got physical with now-fiance Jon Clark many times during the show’s six week run, but is not happy with the suggestion the pair should have waited until they were off-camera to consummate their relationship.

"On the outside, people can be critical, like Caroline Flack,” Hannah told Zoo magazine.

"I don't think she likes me that much. She'd just keep making comments that were quite negative. A few people have come over to me and told me she's commented about me having sex in the house."

Defending her decision to have sex in the communal bedroom, Hannah continued: "Everyone was doing stuff under the covers, whether they've had sex or just a bit of foreplay, they did stuff.

"You couldn't really have the best sex on there, it was so sweaty under the covers. But at the end of the day, we're all human. I fell in love and I couldn't have waited for six weeks."

Jon proposed to Hannah in the final episode of the series earlier this month, after a task which saw them hold a commitment ceremony.

Speaking to OK! magazine, the pair revealed their plans to hold a “gangsta” wedding.

"It's going to be the biggest wedding ever, especially as it's Liverpool and Essex coming together. We want a gangsta theme," she said.

"I want something dead fabulous. I like lace gowns with long sleeves. I also want a big train with Swarovski crystals, a tiara and ten layers of extensions in my hair."

Summer 2003, and after six weeks of competition, England were in the rugby world cup final against reigning champions, Australia.

After eighty minutes, the two teams were inseparable, and the game dragged into extra time. The ball was sent spiralling back to Jonny Wilkinson, the golden boy of English rugby, who made the only kick of his life he said he didn't think about...

building jerusalem
Jonny Wilkinson had the nation's hopes on his broad but youthful shoulders

From the producer of Oscar-winning ‘Man on Wire’ and ‘Senna’, Victoria Gregory, and Emmy-nominated Director, James Erskine, 'Building Jerusalem' hears from Jonny Wilkinson, Sir Clive Woodward, Martin Johnson and Matt Dawson along with never-before-seen behind the scenes and match footage, as they remember the challenge of mounting this audacious campaign on the world's most supreme rugby pitches.

It is an astonishing story of pressure and expectation, tracing the team's roots of success back to the professionalisation of the game in the 1990s, culminating in that glorious World Cup campaign of 2003 that turned Woodward’s poisoned chalice into a golden cup.

'Building Jerusalem' will be in cinemas for one night only, 1 September. Available to download digitally from 11 September, and released on Blu-ray and DVD on 14 September.

The house that Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul) dupes his parents into selling him in the third season of the show, is now up for sale in real life.

The Albuquerque, New Mexico residence is on the market for a cool $1.6m (£1m), and boasts 3,500-square-foot of space, including four bedrooms, two porches, original wood floors and stone-framed doors, windows, chimneys and fireplaces.

But hardcore fans of the ‘Breaking Bad’ will realise that it looks much different to what it did in the AMC series, as it has been given an extensive makeover by its owners.

While the show initially filmed scenes inside the property, a replica was eventually built in a studio for the party sequences and other intense scenes.

The ‘voice of horse racing’ Sir Peter O’Sullevan has died at the age of 97.

The BBC commentator passed away at his home in London on Thursday (29 July), following a long battle with cancer.

Peter became an icon in the horseracing world, after working on 50 Grand Nationals and over 14,000 races while working as the BBC’s chief commentator from 1947 to 1997.

He was also known as the Daily Express’ horse racing correspondent - a position he held for 36 years.

After he retired from commentating in 1997, Peter received a knighthood from the Queen and was the only sports broadcaster at the time to have been bestowed that honour.

While in retirement, Peter also helped raise £3.5m for equine charities.

BBC Sport's racing correspondent Cornelius Lysaght lead the tributes to Peter, telling Radio 5Live: "Meeting your heroes normally comes with a warning, but there was no need to worry with Sir Peter O'Sullevan.

"His honeyed tones were the rhythmic racing backdrop to my upbringing, the comforting BBC voice in the corner calling home thoroughbreds. Big races brought big stories and 'the Voice of Racing' knew how to deliver.

"Even through illness, he was bright, funny and dignified. The ultimate gentleman, who will be deeply missed."

BBC horse racing presenter Clare Balding also posted on Twitter: "Incomparable, irreplaceable, indelible. Sir Peter will never be matched & never forgotten. The ultimate pro & the definition of a gentleman."

Loose Women’ star Linda Robson has revealed she has turned down an offer to appear on ‘Strictly Come Dancing’, over fears she would be the token ‘joke’ dancer.

MORE 'STRICTLY':

The ‘Birds Of A Feather’ star was offered a big money deal to star on the new series of the BBC ballroom show, but feared she would “traumatise” her children by making a spectacle of herself.

"You have to know your capabilities. I could not learn one routine,” Linda told the Daily Star.

“I did ‘Let's Dance for Sport Relief’ and I could not remember the routine and I had three weeks to learn it.

"I don't mind people laughing with me but my kids would be traumatised. I would be the joke one if I went on the show and I don't want that."

The ‘Birds Of A Feather’ actress tipped her co-star Lesley Joseph to take her spot on the show, saying that she would be "fantastic".

Linda's not the only ‘Loose Women’ panelist to be approached for the new series though, as Jamelia has reportedly signed up to ‘Strictly’, having turned down an offer to do ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!’ instead.

A source told The Sun: “Jamelia is going to be a hot favourite right from the start. She’s stunning, has long legs and is experienced with dance routines because of her pop past.

“We expect her to be at the standard of Pixie Lott, who did really well last year.”

Other celebs rumoured to be taking part in this year’s series include couple Louise and Jamie Redknapp, Peter Andre, former ‘Daybreak’ host Adrian Chiles, ‘Miranda’ star Tom Ellis, ex-’Coronation Street’ star Georgia May Foote and ‘BBC Breakfast’ weather presenter Carol Kirkwood.

‘Strictly Come Dancing’ returns to BBC One in the autumn.

Has Social Media Shifted the Balance of Shame

$
0
0
I've just completed a series of graphic paintings for a solo show entitled, 'I Think Therefore I Hashtag.' I have been painting about the news stories of the last year that were waking me up and coming to bed with me. Now, I am something of an armchair activist. I'm not unknown to be facebooking about some cause or other or be pushing petitions under people's noses. But painting these stories has really got my brain ticking about the hashtag - as a dangerous force which can ruin ordinary lives.

I deal with the matter of the hashtag very differently in my show but the train of thought has led me to believe that Twitter is turning us into a nasty surveillance state. We're shaming people without considering the consequences and the punishments are outweighing the crimes. Anyone caught blurting out bigotry or ignorance on a public forum will be tarred and feathered within hours. Take Justine Sacco, the PR executive who tweeted, 'Going to Africa. Hope I don't get AIDS. Just kidding. I'm white.'

The tweet was sent to 170 twitter followers before she boarded her flight from JFK to South Africa. By the time she'd landed, the hashtag  #HasJustineLandedYet had trended worldwide and a twitter user went to the airport to photograph her to post it online. In the meantime, she'd been sacked and had received thousands of angry messages and threats. 12 words had blown her life apart. The hotel workers at the hotel she'd booked were threatening to strike. Nobody could guarantee her safety at her destination and her family - who are active civil rights supporters in South Africa - were ashamed. Her only hope was a time machine.

More recently, we've seen another act of self-harm in the news. Nobel prize winning scientist Tim Hunt gave a keynote speech and said that women in the science lab were distracting because 'you fall in love with them, they fall in love with you and when you criticise them they cry'. His comments, semi-satirical I'm guessing, and probably intended to be humorous, went viral and were used as a weapon to 'hang him out to dry'. It was a flippant comment that launched a thousand op ed pieces all over the world. A journalist who probably wanted to boost her own twitter following started the hashtag #distractinglysexy, which fanned the flames beautifully. Before you know it, the savage vultures arrived to pick at the flesh of the 72 year old academic.  Female scientists from all over the world posted images of themselves online, Hunt resigned from his post, his life and career in shreds. Professor Richard Dawkins came out in support of Hunt and said that his remark was "light-hearted banter against himself."

This cruel game of mob justice anytime someone says something stupid or mildly offensive runs the risk of creating a society of people who are terrified of saying anything that might shake things up.  We are losing our sense of humour and displaying a remarkable lack of tolerance.  The twittersphere is a practical thought police - conform or die.  Ironic since social media purports to be a voice for all. Sacco made a ridiculous comment but I don't think she deserved to have her life ripped apart but this is the age that we live in now.

As Monica Lewinsky said recently, scandal is brought to us by the digital revolution. After being swept up in what she calls her 'improbable romance', aged 22 with the President of the United States, Bill Clinton, the news broke online. Lewinsky says, "It was the first time the traditional news was usurped by the internet for a major news story. I went from being a completely private figure to a publicly humiliated one worldwide." Lewinsky says that this was prior to social media but it moved an international community of shamers to comment online and brand her as international strumpet. In her recent Ted talk she said that since her affair exploded into world news 17 years ago, humiliation has become a commodity and shame is an industry. We're now in a cycle of clickabillity - she says, "the more we click on gossip, the more numb we get to the human lives behind it, the more numb we get, the more we click."

While I do still love Facebook and Instagram, I feel like Twitter is becoming this waiting room where opportunists bide their time until they can pounce on and get the bandwagon rolling over their next target. Hang around long enough in this toxic virtual cafeteria and you'll find someone to demonise and something to rant about.  What's so shocking is that so many of them seem to be on the 'liberal' left, all fisticuffs and ready to cause trouble. The destruction of someone's life and livelihood as retribution for a daft comment does not fit the crime. Let he who is without sin cast the first stone. Lewinsky's Ted talk has given us food for thought, several courses in fact. I agree with her whole-heartedly when she says we need to be more compassionate. We should try to "imagine walking a mile in someone else's headline."

Introducing Dempagumi.inc

2015-07-29-1438189796-5507869-mockup2.png

"Can you see the Death Star from The Big Dipper constellation?" asks Eimi from Dempagumi.inc (or simply Dempagumi). She is (of course) referring to a comic named North Star: "In the first of the North Star comic there is a faint star in the Big Dipper and if you can see it with the naked eye, death is upon you".

I'm chatting with one of the fastest rising stars in Jpop, the hyperactive and visually dazzling Dempagumi, and I've just asked the six girls of the band if they know any fascinating, ultra-geeky facts and because they are all devoted 'Otaku' (self-confessed stay-at-home nerds) they are falling over themselves in an effort to out-geek each other: "I buy the first and second edition of a comic to check for mistakes! " exclaims Eimi "what the hell?" "why would you even bother?" laugh other band members as I try to get to grips with the information overload I'm being subjected to. "When we worked in Akihabara [a district of Tokyo famed for video games, anime and manga] we didn't know anyone's names because we all used our screen names!" says Risa.

Dempagumi are an interesting bunch. Formed in 2008 after all suffering bullying at school, they sought solace in video games, comics and cosplay and were apparently so shy that when they first formed wouldn't even talk to each other so it's enormously empowering to see them overcome their tribulations and rise to considerable fame (they sold out the legendary Budokan arena in Tokyo last year) in their home country.

The group's music is hard to explain. "It's very fast with intense lyrics" say the girls. But when asked if they could compare it to any Western acts, the confusion sets in "Pop...pop...pop? We don't know any pop acts". It appears they like the harder side of music and cite bands such as The Prodigy and Babymetal among their favourites and this is why Dempagumi's music is a little baffling and extreme on first listen; an all-out assault on the senses and to our ears may sound a little bit like driving a car too fast. "I get that!" say the band when I tell them.

The band is probably best known over here for their totally bonkers cover of The Beastie Boys 'Sabotage', which I shall leave here for your, erm, puzzlement:

But scratch a little deeper and Dempagumi's music is pretty complex and the girls have even performed with legendary indie outfit Bo Ningen. "I learned to improvise" says Eimi, obviously delighted with the chance to experiment outside the usual confines of an idol unit "we learned to infuse our soul into our music" she continues.

Although the girls first met auditioning as voice actresses they all identified with each other's social anxiety and I ask the band if they get nervous before a performance "there are six of us and if there are other members that are nervous [before a show] we form a circle and lay hands on top of each other" they say.

It's now nearing the end of our conversation and the girls are laughing heartily at each other's obsessions as another of the girls, Pinky, explains the technicalities of making costumes "for anime characters, even if things don't exist, I like creating them from nothing, so I would look at things and go 'how would I fabricate this?', so things like weapons and accessories, I even match the scale to my height. There is only one in the world!" she beams. And I think I'm on fairly safe ground when I say there is only one Dempagumi.inc too.

Dempagumi's album W.W.D.D. is out now.

Stuart Baggs, a former candidate on BBC One’s ‘The Apprentice’, has been found dead, aged 27.

READ MORE:

The star’s body was found by police at an address on Central Promenade in Douglas, Isle Of Man on Thursday (30 July) morning.

A police spokesperson said that the cause of Stuart’s death was currently “unknown”, but added that there was "nothing to indicate that his death is criminally suspicious at this time".

Stuart Baggs has been found dead, aged 27

Stuart shot to fame on the sixth series of ‘The Apprentice’ in 2010, when he became the youngest-ever contestant to compete for a job with Lord Sugar.

He dubbed himself “Stuart Baggs, The Brand”, and became famous for his one-liners, such as, “Everything I touch turns to sold”.

His toe-curlingly awkward interview with Claude Littner also proved to be a highlight for viewers, but ultimately proved to be his undoing on the show, when Lord Sugar fired him.

The series was eventually won by Stella English.

The Plymouth-born entrepreneur had lived in the Isle Of Man for most of his life, and launched his first business, Bluewave Communications, in 1997.

Stuart had held an event to launch his latest product on Tuesday, even tweeting about its success on his social media page.

Lord Sugar led the tributes to Stuart, posting on Twitter: "Terrible news Stuart Baggs has died. My sincere condolences to his family and friends RIP one of the stand out characters of 'The Apprentice'.

Luisa Zissman, who starred on the 2013 series of the show, also tweeted: "RIP one of my fav ever Apprentice contestants Stuart Baggs "The Brand" he has joined the 27 club. What a tragedy."

Stuart opened up about his post-'Apprentice' life to Isle of Man Today's Business News earlier this week, saying: "I work, as my hair will tell you, at least 18 hours a day. I sleep for four hours religiously, I would not have it any other way, like Margaret Thatcher.

"But also I'm a geek I make no excuse for it. I started this business as a geek."

Of his appearance on the show, he added: "You'd have to have a sense of humour failure not to laugh about it.

"But it's part of my history. History is a rich tapestry and some parts of it are more colourful than others."

Naughty Boy 'Keeping His Mouth Shut' Over Zayn Malik's New Solo Record Deal?

Anyone hoping for a bit of drama from Naughty Boy, following the news that Zayn Malik has signed a solo record deal, will be disappointed to learn that he’s keeping schtum about the whole thing.

SEE MORE:

When Zayn first announced that he had quit One Direction, breaking hearts the world over (including ours), it was widely reported that he and Naughty Boy were working on material together, with a track they had recorded later leaking online.

However, since then they appear to have had a falling out, with Zayn later branding him a “fat joke” on Twitter, and criticising his abilities as a music producer.

zayn malik

It was confirmed on Wednesday that night, after parting ways with Simon Cowell’s Syco label, Zayn had signed a deal with RCA Records, with the former 1D singer adding that he was excited to be releasing “real music”.

Attention then turned to Naughty Boy, and whether or not he would share his view on the announcement, although the only allusion to Zayn’s news on his Twitter page came in the form of a cryptic message, which read: “Sometimes, my greatest achievement in life is just keeping my mouth shut.”

We guess that means we won’t be hearing the sound of ‘ding ding, round two’ anytime soon, then…

This isn’t the first time Naughty Boy has been mentioned in the same breath as One Direction this week, however, after Louis Tomlinson was seen destroying a pinata, featuring an image of the music producer’s face on it, during a live show.

While Stuart was fired by Lord Sugar during the semi-final of that year's series, which was won by Stella English, many viewers of the series considered Stuart a natural fit for victory, and his departure from the boardroom to be one of Lord Sugar's biggest ever mistakes.

Here, we pay tribute to Stuart's best bits, courtesy of one keen-eyed YouTube fan Andy McZomb. From selling sausages in a silly hat, to thinking on his feet when it came to getting the air lock out of a hose... we salute you, Stuart, and your contagious enthusiasm, whatever the occasion and size of the task set before you...

Alan Sugar paid his respects to Stuart, labelling him a “stand out character” from the reality TV show:

A number of other celebrities have tweeted, including 2013 ‘The Apprentice’ candidate Luisa Zissman:

A police spokesperson stated that the cause of Stuart’s death is currently “unknown”, but added that there was "nothing to indicate that his death is criminally suspicious at this time".

Morrissey Says He Was Sexually Assaulted By Airport Staff Member, Who He Accuses Of 'Groping' Him

Morrissey has accused an airport security officer of sexually assaulting him, during a recent trip.

Writing a post on the online Morrissey zine True To You, the ‘Everyday Is Like Sunday’ singer claimed that he was “groped” by a staff member at San Francisco International Airport, where he was boarding a flight to London, on Tuesday afternoon.

He explained: “I went through the usual airport security procedure including the stand-up 'scanner', and all was well - no bleeps and nothing unusual.

“Before I could gather my belongings from the usual array of trays I was approached by an "airport security officer" who stopped me, crouched before me and groped my penis and testicles. He quickly moved away as an older ‘airport security officer’ approached.”

Morrissey also reveals he was travelling with two members of British Airways Special Service, who urged him to file a complaint against the alleged assailant, who he says was the General Manager On Duty.

He goes on to claim that before filing the complaint, he spoke to the officer, who repeatedly told him: “That’s just your opinion.”

The singer adds: “Apart from ‘that's just your opinion’, he would not comment, even though, since the penis and testicles were mine and no one else's, then my opinion must surely have some meaning.

“The words ‘that's just your opinion’ volunteered themselves from this 'officer's' mouth before he had even heard the question. He knew he could be confronted, but he also knew that he could never be challenged (even though the entire incident is most certainly on CCTV camera).”

Concluding the post, Morrissey asks: “Do people have minds?”

Morrissey had been in California to wrap up his most recent US tour. He’s due to return there next month, to perform a string of dates, including a scheduled appearance at FYF Fest in Los Angeles.

Louis Walsh is staging a triumphant return to ‘The X Factor’... but not as a judge.

MORE 'X FACTOR':

The Irish music manager has reportedly agreed to make an appearance on the first episode of the newly revamped talent show - but he’ll be coming back as a cleaner.

According to the Daily Star, Louis has agreed to star in a tongue-in-cheek sketch showing him sweeping the floor of the ‘X Factor’ laboratory, where Simon Cowell makes his popstars.

A source told the paper: “Louis is game for a laugh and has agreed to play a cleaner in the opening film.”

Louis left ‘X Factor’ after 11 series back in May, having served as a judge since its first series in 2004, claiming he wanted to get back to his day job as a manager.

He has since been replaced by newcomer Nick Grimshaw on the panel.

Louis was originally fired from the show in 2007 and replaced by Brian Friedman. However, just a few days into filming, Simon brought his pal back, claiming the show didn’t work without him.

Since leaving this time around, Louis found himself at the centre of a spat with Cheryl Fernandez-Versini, after he branded her “lazy and irrelevant”.

But the former Girls Aloud singer recently revealed they’d made up though, telling Closer magazine: “Louis and I made our peace last week because a few things unfolded. I’ve seen him and we’re OK.

“He’s been such a huge part of the show; he was there from day one, so it was a long stint. But I think Louis is as relieved to be out of it as I was.”

Speaking about the new recruit, Chris said: “Lisa is as good as it gets when it comes to making big, important television shows.

“She’s funny, sassy, super experienced and has always absolutely loved cars.”

She will be taking over from Andy Wilman who, coincidentally, is also an old friend of departing presenter Jeremy Clarkson’s.

Andy will be joining Jeremy, as well as his co-presenters Richard Hammond and James May, on their as-of-yet-unnamed new project for Amazon Prime, which was officially confirmed to be in the works on Wednesday.

Lisa has expressed her excitement about the new venture, adding: “This is an incredibly exciting and challenging opportunity, which I couldn’t resist.”

While it’s yet to be confirmed who will be joining Chris on the rebooted ‘Top Gear’ presenting team, it was recently claimed that F1 driver Jenson Button would be involved in the new series of the motoring show, when it returns to screens next year.
